What CPU/GPU were in your first gaming PC?

Askew

A Intel P4 northwood 3.06GHZ  CPU with a ATI Radeon 9700 pro GPU, was my first gaming PC. Damn that was a long time ago lol.

first one i remember was a q6600 and a 630.

but there was one before that.

Q6600 was a really good chip to have for gaming at the time, the 2500K was the first chip afterward to really jump ahead and get people to upgrade.

tbh, it will still do fine, for games like bf3

i should have purchased a new psu and gpu instead of a new pc, but i didnt know that at the time

I held on and jumped from E5200 to 2500K and that was one hell of a boost in performance, I also ran a GTX 285 briefly before moving to a GTX 580 when prices dropped a bit.

One of my friends ran a Q6600 from launch up until a year ago when he bought a 2500k/GTX 580 combo which is what he now runs.

Cyrix 80Mhz with 16MB Ram (Eventually put 64MB EDO Ram) and a Voodoo 1. First real rig (the week before Unreal Tournament dropped woot!) Intel Celeron 633Mhz with 128MB Ram, and I can't quite remember but I think the best Voodoo you could get at the time, it was def branded 3DFX, maybe a Voodoo 3 64MB.

Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the ‘transcendent’ and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion; prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to be thought arrogant or selfish. Picture all experts as if they were mammals. Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence. Suspect your own motives, and all excuses. Do not live for others any more than you would expect others to live for you.

Yeah, sandy bridge came along and made overclocking epically easy with the UEFI BIOS on the P67 boards, still a great chip, I only upgraded to my 3570K because it was available cheaply and 2500Ks were still selling for great money, I wanted a Z77 platform because I didn't know how important PCIE3 support would be.

As it happens PCIE2 is still going strong...

It was a Sony VAIO E series 15" with a Intel Core i5 3210M and Intel HD graphics 3000. (The best electronic device I have owned)

It also had 6GB RAM and a 750GB 7200RPM Hitachi HDD. (Best Hard Drive I have ever used)

It played TF2, Minecraft, and helped me build my current gaming computer and was my backup until it broke when I opened a door really fast forgetting that it was on a shelf, sticking out, charging and it flew across the room. Killing it.

I remember the voodoo cards but at that time I had a P3 with SiS graphics on the motherboard (remember when integrated graphics used to be on the board not the CPU?)

I forget the model of it but I could play age of empires on it with my 14'' CRT and speakers hanging from the sides of the monitor. :)

Going through the posts, I only see one guy with an older rig (the 486 one).

I guess the LTT forum population is really pretty young. Now you made me feel old. :(
