770 x2 or 780 ti?

steve nasty

Hey guys, so I already have a 770 in my rig right now, and preparing for star citizen it looks like i might want  a little more power. What do you think? Anywho, I'm thinking about saving up to buy either another 770, or selling my 770 and buying a 780 ti. Oh, and if you think I should buy a 780 ti, I really like the looks and prestige of a reference model from EVGA, but is the performance really up to par to a non reference model? Is the sacrifice worth it? Thanks

Two 770's will be faster than a single 780Ti

Exactly this. Wait for the 880 to be released and then sell your 770 and get the 880.

Another 770

I understand that dual 770's would be more powerful, but I'm not sure if in the future when I move on if I'd really want to be selling two 770's. That sounds like a lot of work when I have a lot of room to grow with one 780 ti

I'd say wait for 8xx. Or get another 770 if you need all the performance right here and right now.

True, it's the tradeoff with SLI. With two less expensive cards you get more power immediately at the cost of future upgrades while the single more expensive option gives you less power now but more later. You have to decide what you want.

Also at the cost of less "performance per watt" and sometimes shitty FPS because the developers didn't care enough about people with SLI :/

2x770 hands down, but, sell and get a 780Ti and save up on the extra and get another one if you're looking for the Overkill

That's not as common as you think and it's often fixed shortly after a game comes out.

i hat it when people recommend waiting for something that's not coming out in ages and is being delayed even further, plus how better is it gonna be any way !

Yeah, that's why I said "sometimes". And sometimes we get games that are not even optimized for a single GPU (yes, Watch Dogs, I'm looking at you)

But really, would I rather regret buying a 780 ti if its better? Or be sure I dont want it if its not.

780Ti is as good as single GPU gets, not counting the Titans. It's more of a money-wise type of thing.

Watchdogs actually runs perfectly fine on my system, my GPU's sit at 97% or more utilization constantly.

90% of time it runs fine on my system too, about 60 fps. But as soon as I go to the view from inside the car... Setting max buffered frames to 1 kinda solves the problem, but only kinda. Oh well, at least it's $25 and it's still a very good game.

So now, whats the status on 780 ti, or waiting for an 880? Cause I dont need it for a while. Also what do you think I can get out of my 770, selling wise?

getting the 780Ti is really not that much of a step down from 2x770, specially at 1080p or even 1440p, the 780Ti will handle modern titles at high res (1440p...) at around 30~35FPS wile dual 770s will kick it up to ~60FPS, so there is a difference, but still very playable with the 780Ti's 30FPS, but once you upgrade to SLI 780Ti, men, it's gonna smoke SLI 770, gonna be that much worth it
