Yesterday, I decided to run Cinebench r15 for teh lulz. So I went into the BIOS, raised the clock on my Core 2 Duo E8500 to 4.68GHz and "adjusted" the voltage to 1.7v. After some "fine tuning", I started up Cinebench and I ran it through the single threaded test. To my surprise, it scored 132 as you can see below

9oN0Cv9.jpg

Aside from my E8500 being a sh** overclocker, I thought this was a pretty decent score, so I decided to enter my score into the LTT database found here.

e2q7Xlb.png

As you can see here, my Core 2 Duo is actually on par with stock Sandy i7s. The most surprising thing I found was that my Core 2 Duo was faster than a 5.35GHz FX 8350. So this raises the question, is Wolfdale IPC (2007) actually better than Vishera IPC (2012)? From my results it seems so. A 4.68GHz Core 2 Duo IS faster than an FX 8350 @5.35GHz. This means that the IPC efficiency gap is actually quite large. AMD really needs to step up their game.

Stop kidding and tell us what you are cooling with. Also what temps you get. :D

I was too afraid to look at the temps, not to mention it was a suicide run so I didn't have time to open HWmonitor

You could just quickly peek at the temps and say if they're bad or really bad. :D I'd estimate something way above 80 °C? :D

who cares...

I'm back down to 1.4v now so I'd rather not pump 1.7v through it again :P

Im having a tough time reading this screenshot

is a core disabled in the bios?

cpuz indicates 2 cores 2 threads

the score is a multhreaded score, not a single thread score.

so it is. he got 244 multi thread though so i'm not sure. i've had a look and it does seem about right. your right that it does say 2 core/2threads on the 'single core' run though.

No I went to preferences and I ran it on a single thread.

This is the dual threaded pass and I scored 244

That's why overclocking is awesome. And don't worry because while the E8500 has better single threaded performance, it only has two cores

ok. you can select single core/thread run by going on cinebench in the top left corner and then file>advanced test. then it will bring up a single test as well. that way its less confusing :)

nice results btw

495FSB wtf thats pretty kool, I never got that high on 775 platform.

I dont think this chip roles with modern amd chips or intel chips when you consider ipc. I dont know of anyone running 4ghz + at 1.7V on c2d \ c2q as 24\7 stable settings.

still a really awesome OC. thanks for pushing her and posting your results.
