I shouldn’t have kept the $1,000,000 PC

We still have the $1,000,000 Computer, a cluster of over a petabyte of NVMe storage that can run at speeds in excess of 100GB/s! The problem is, it draws a RIDICULOUS amount of power, and subsequently generates a RIDICULOUS amount of heat… so much that its overwhelming the AC in our server room. Today we fix that… at least we hope.

As more plumbing is shown:

PTFE tape is an option for fittings, but it can cause a situation like the leaking fitting in the server room.

There is an alternative that works very reliably: liquid sealant. The downside is that it's not healthy (once dry it's safe) so wearing gloves and/or working without spills is recommended. Would have to look at the bottle, but it might be Loctite 542: https://www.henkel-adhesives.com/ca/en/product/thread-sealants/loctite_5420.html

People never go out of business.

They're in canada...plumb a giant air to water heat exchanger on the roof and call it a day.

"but AnonymousGuy what if it gets below the dew point" oh gee no one could possibly come up with a controller to bypass the roof exchanger automatically.

Pardon the ignorance but why can't you place the "heat exchanger" in the roof or outside and take advantage of the free cold air? It really looks like this DIY setup is way too overcomplicated lol.

Or a heat pump, might even save you more money and headaches in the long term

yeah in my county/state the tap general the better option. when doing plumbing. due to hard temp swings. from 60 to 96 c in about a hour.

hell the tape i put in the shower. many man-years back. still going strong the cheap plastic internal shower head(need a height extender pipe)

3 have failed. the last one i let it dry out seeing i wanted to inspect the build up. i pick it up last week from where it was sitting at. it fell apart. the whole thing fell part

please wear ear protection when working on servers. people care too little about their hearing until it's too late, believe me.

Another thing that you could do is to get a heat battery to capture heat during the warm months and use it during the colder months. The traditional way is to use water tanks, but there are also salt batteries and even a lava battery that someone did.

Please add some noise reduction in the shoots in the server room, it gets pretty unwatchable.

Where LMG is located, their average summer temperature is room temperature.

TBH I think they're doing this over-complicated shit for content.  I just can't believe they're *that dumb* overall and they can't see much more straightforward options [with basically everything they do].  Except Alex...I've seen enough to conclude he's one of those "C's get degrees" engineers.

Actually it's been rather hot in the summers in the area for the last few years.

Just because the average temp is mild, doesn't mean there aren't times in the summer when it gets really hot.  To the point the government is giving out free ACs!  https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/heres-how-low-income-earners-in-b-c-can-apply-for-a-free-air-conditioner

It was hot when I was there in the summer.

What was the black fitting that was used in the water tank that had to be sealed with the $40 tube of glue / sealant? I have a similar application and was curious

Cool machine. What do you use a machine like this? Load up a game or some simulation. Try look into https://boinc.berkeley.edu/. You can essentially donate your pc processing to some research projects and compare with other computer users. 🙂

Lol, I just realized there's a
LinusTechTips_Team boinc team.
