Assuming that the info is not out of date.

I am setting up port forwarding on my router for a Minecraft server and having trouble getting it working. I will attach a photo of how I have it setup. basically I give the ip address to my friend to see if he can join but he can't. I can join from my local network, but that still doesn't mean the port forwarding is setup correctly. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where is the server hosted? is it on a Windows box? Windows has a built in firewall where you will need to allow the ports.

Windows 10.

The sever is on a Mac and I play on windows

There should be some video guides on how to allow Minecraft through the firewall for Mac OS.

Scratch that. Are there any OS’s that would be good to install on my Mac for running just a Minecraft server

What year/model is your Mac?

You should be able to use bootcamp and install Windows OS or install Linux/Ubuntu.

F.Y.I

I haven't used bootcamp nor have I installed Windows OS on a Mac.

Are you giving him your public WAN IP address, or the server's LAN IP address?

Your friend needs your public IP address to connect.

I’m giving him the public ip. My public up address is also what I have setup in the configuration file for the server.

Generally for Port forwarding to work you need a few things.

1) The IP address of the server needs to be static OR you can set up a reservation in the DHCP server of your router for that device. This is the address you use for port forwarding.

2) You need the port numbers that need to be forwarded, at well as the protocols needed (TCP vs UDP or both).

3) You need to be sure that the server software is also allowed under the firewall settings of the device. Mac OS does have a built in Firewall so you need to forward stuff there as well.

4) You need to make sure your ISP gives you a public IP (Yours should be).

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
