New version of VMware Workstation Pro 17.5.1 Build 23298084

On the website https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/VMware-Workstation.shtml (I almost always download programs from softpedia) the latest version of VMware Workstation Pro is 17.5.0 Build 22583795 but on the official the developer's website is version 17.5.1 Build 23298084.

Is this latest version 17.5.1 Build 23298084 defective or is it a beta version or is it with a virus that Softpedia has not updated it yet? It's the same with VMware vCenter Converter. On the website https://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/VMware-Converter.shtml the latest version is 6.2.0.1 Build 8466193 but on the developer's website https://customerconnect.vmware.com/en/downloads /info/slug/datacenter_cloud_infrastructure/vmware_vcenter_converter/6_6_0 is 6.6.0 Build 23265344.

Likely vmWare is "re-arranging" things. Long time vmWare user here - after this cash grab I'm totally dropping them and moving to KVM. Expect much less support and innovation from vmWare as they ditch all but the largest enterprises

Not as feature rich as VMWare Workstation though, but Hyper-V is free with Windows Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions. It's also a Type-1 hypervisor so it's technically faster and more responsive than 3rd party (those are Type-2) at the CPU and I/O level.

If you primarily run Windows and popular distros of Linux (such as Ubuntu) and don't have any VMWare centric lab environment requirements, just go with Hyper-V. The only downside is that there's no GPU acceleration within the VM.
