Gentle Typhoon fans vs Corsair SP120/AF120

-snip-

What about a Noiseblocker NB Eloop? Would you say is on par with a Gentle Typhoon or a Noctua?

For sure, on par with both.  Slightly quieter than Noctua, but they apparently have issues being mounted in pull, the blades touch the rad and rub on it apparently.

This guy owns a website devoted to watercooling hardware and fans, sorta like LTT is for hardware, he did some really good testing, although some disagree with the results.

Trust me, corsair's fans are the junk. Well they're decent fans, but nothing spectacular, but yea they are loud, the quiet edition not as much, but still definitely noticeable(but the quiet edition performs like shit)

lol corsair fans are poo when compared to high end fans

  • 1 month later...

Video of the NF-F12's and the GT's connected to a fan controller, video is pretty accurate to the sound of them compared to each other.

Fan 3 is a NF-F12 mounted with screws to the exhaust in the rear of the case.

Fan 4 is a NF-F12 mounted with the included rubber mounts in the top of the case.

Fan 5 is a Gentle Typhoon mounted in the front intake of the case.

Fan 6 is a Gentle Typhoon mounted in the front intake of the case.

Conclusion: I'll never turn the NF-F12's up to 100%. The GT's can be at whatever needed.

@acidydragon

I really enjoyed your review.  I recently purchased a CM Seidon 240M and while it performs like a dream, the stock fans are incredibly loud at 1600rpm and above.  At full speed, 2400rpm they are jet engine status.  I typically leave my fans at 1200rpm and I am happy with that.  I have been thinking about buying some better fans to allow me to run higher RPMs without the awful noise.  I think Gentle Typhoons look like a good option.  Your video really helped illustrate the sound difference between the two types of fans, and even the Noctuas with and without the rubber mounts made a huge difference.

Thanks for the review!

IKR, I used them alot back in the day, sad that the only place in the USA you can find a good stock of them is at Performance PCS. Love the fact that they are here in Florida :D

Glad somebody else joined the GT mustard race :P

I wish I had some. Although, my single 780 is easily the loudest thing in my build. So I would watercool before I'd buy GT's

Swiftech's Helix fans are probably the closest thing to GTs.

I have a single typhoon at was it 1450 rpm running at 12v in my system. It's probably the quietest thing in my PC even though everything else is undervolted.

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum
