SSD locked?

I’m having an issue with my mom’s SSD, she wants her pictures and other files cloned onto an external SATA drive. But the ssd she gave me is somehow locked, when I try to access it I am met with a message saying I do not have permission to access this drive.

A corrupt partition table or hardware failure could cause that.

 

What does Disk Management say about how that drive is partitioned?

 

Check the drive health with CrystalDiskInfo.

Put it back to her machine, and clone/copy it from there...   
Why did she even remove the SSD from her machine? 

It could be file permission, it could be frozen partition, it can be encrypted, or corrupted, it can be anything... Put it back to her mashine, and clone/copy it from there.

I put the drive in her machine and it says the same thing. The drive is inaccessible.

It’s basically the same. I cloned the hard drive over to the SSD. I don’t understand why the hard drive is accessible in another system considering it came in the laptop and is the primary boot device and the SSD isn’t.

So to summarize:

Your mom's have PC, and OS on HDD
You want to / did clone it (you didn't say how) to SSD. When you clone it, the SSD is not accessible in her PC, or any other PC.

But when you take out the HDD from her PC, and connect it to yours, it's accessible.

Did I understand that right?

is the SSD M.2 NVME, and HDD is in MBR? 
What model of SSD is it?
And how do you connect it to the PC. 
is the HDD MBR, or GPT?

last time I cloned the OS, I used hasleo disk clone. 

And I cloned it, just because I have a nightmare to get the iSCSI target, and X520 network, as well as normal intel 2.5g i225 nic to work, on Windows 11.

And I cloned it, just because I have a nightmare to get the iSCSI target, and X520 network, as well as normal intel 2.5g i225 nic to work, on Windows 11. 

I used macrium reflect, I cloned the contents of the hard drive to the ssd, but not the ssd is locked somehow. The ssd is a teamgroup m.2 nvme drive. The hard drive from her machine is an old seagate. The hard drive is most likely GPT. I thought mbr went out of use a long time ago.

please just check, if its MBR, or GPT. Because with HDD, you can do both. And if you are cloning it to SSD M.2 NVMe, then that's the problem.

As you can't do OS on M.2 NVMe SSD in MBR (well you can, but it will work just on specific SSD with legacy boot rom, and newer mobo don't even support M.2 legacy boot)

 

It's written in the disk management, when you right click the disk, (left from partition) it will have grey out "convert to MBR, or GPT" option, or just go to properties and volume tab.

It says “convert to MBR” so I’m pretty sure it’s GPT.

Nope, I made a copy of the data, so I dont need any of the data on the SSD. I just reformatted it so now I have access to the drive. Problem solved!
