18 Core UNLOCKED Hw-EP Xeon rumoured

LukaP

http://hwbot.org/newsflash/2552_broadwell_for_desktop_postponed_to_mid_2015_and_we_may_see_18_core_unlocked_haswell_e_xeons

 Nebosja writes, "Add to this the rumoured confirmation that, unlike their predecessors, Haswell-EP Xeons, including likely the 14-core and 18-core flavours, will have several top bin un-locked and even liquid-cooling optimised variants meant for HPC, workstations and high frequency trading, and you can guess the implications: the Haswell-E and Haswell-EP platforms will again be the overclocker’s heaven."

This is too awesome. If this happens to be true, i will sell my kindey and one lung.

Edit: This will probably be very much expensive, and Intel will only do it to show off, but this truly is the best piece of news in the last few years

@LinusTech any comments?

because compute power. dat render rig i could have with a 2P system :3

But can it run minecraft?

well since that is a very singlethreaded game, the same as a 4670k :P

Because it's way better than a Mac Pro, and would probably still cost less, even with a full system built around it.

Since FAH increased the requirements for BigADV to 32 cores minimum, these CPUs would be the only ones capable of running BigADV in a 2-socket configuration (afaik)

dear God... AI anyone???

Also, still not powerful enough for AI. We won't get there for a long time, even with more cores and better CPUs. The amount of computational power of the human brain dwarfs anything we can create nowadays (within reason).

So lots. BigADV gives you many more points than regular folding does.

I have absolutely no need for anything even remotely like that, but I still want it!
