SaddamAWP01

I did not build my PC yet because I wait for my case, but I installed the asus rog strix oc 4090 in my old pc with 750 FSP power supply, it works fine but I have a little coil whine sometimes, should I keep or return it? I will post some photos and videos.

Generally speaking you're not going to be able to RMA anything with coil whine unless it's truly astoundingly bad, and it's kind of a waste of time and energy to return it and buy another one because there's always the chance that the next one will be worse.

i observed coil whine starts when I switch resolution from 1080p to 4k and it stays only for few seconds and its gone. Is weird I don’t know how to test it maybe

From what I recall, Asus re-designed the early STRIX and TUF 4090 models due to excessive coil whine. Buildzoid confirmed this in a recent PCB breakdown looking at the Matrix, which is just a STRIX, more or less. A buddy has a STRIX he bought around launch, he's been capping framerate to get by but my TUF I bought in April and its dead silent, I've not noticed a peep from it even at 450W in some benchmarks.

Once again.

Higher FPS = higher load = more current draw = more coil whine.

I am not even going to watch the video, what exactly is not clear? Coil whine is normal, and has been normal for the last 15 years.

If you just got it today I don't know what to tell you. You can, its a gamble, but it may just be you're super sensitive to it.

Coil whine starts to be loud only for few seconds when I start the game or change settings, and it become stable and more silent, but is still there. If I play with 60 fps it is silent.

I think we're talking in circles at this point. Return it and gamble or don't and learn to live with it.

We have told you 4 times already that that is normal and the expected behavior.

Tested now more games, coil whine comes when fps are higher then 150 and is low, it is little more intense after 250 fps and higher.

When you spend 2200 euro on a product that might be defective and you have the chance to do something, you would do the same.

The price of the item isn't going to change the answers people give.

My high end ASUS cards always had coil whine. I'm now on MSI and I either lucked out, or it's much better in general.

I bought a ASUS 4090 STRIX about half a year ago. It's an amazing card. Loved it. The fans were super quiet, performance was top notch. It looked great. But it also had noticeable coil whine at almost any load. And I hate coil whine. So I just returned it.

Then I bought a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090, and it has zero coil whine (I heard the same from other owners of the same model, which is why this was my 1st choice). The fans were too loud for me, so I ended up water cooling it (undervolting, power limiting, fan curves, big giant case with lots of fans - nothing helped, but water cooling made the PC quiet again).

My advice: if you can tolerate coil whine (if it doesn't annoy you), then just enjoy the card and ignore the buzz. If it's annoying (like it is to me), just return the card and try something else. You can try another STRIX 4090, maybe next one will have less coil whine (I hear some people tried, like, 9 cards, and all had varying amount of whine, so there's no guarantee here). You can try another manufacturer, just be ready that fans will be louder (strix was by far the quietest card I've tried... out of 4 I put into my PC).

I hope ASUS solves their coil whine issues before 5090 goes on sale, I'm still a huge ASUS fan, even after all the coil whine and fried motherboard drama.

My ROG Strix Vega 64 had the craziest coil whine ever, old card kinda irrelevant sorry but I have owned ASUS and Gigabyte.

My current card is a Gigabyte 4080 Aero OC so its not pulling the power numbers yours is but even at absolutely full tilt the whine is hard to hear and ive pretty much got a noctua setup which is mostly inaudible and the GPU is less that a foot from my ear. Its not something I would hear over the audio of my game or whatever.

Warranty issues aside for a moment, back in the day we used to put some sorta goop on coils which really helps, dunno if anyone remembers that from the early 2000's. I had a motherboard with coils on it, forums said it was known for it but after putting some sorta goop on them it killed the noise almost completely.
