As I understand it, "CPU" is the temperature on the bit on your mobo next to the CPU, and "package" under the name of your CPU is the actual temperature of the CPU. Some processors (intel?) also give you the temperature per core, which can be different again.

Okay, thanks man. I don't know if they would be able to fit 8 thermometers in a 8-core CPU though :P

"So which one is the CPU temperature?" ... I guess i did answer that one... :P

No you didn't colonel_mortis did.

you asked which one the CPU temperature was.

Read the OP: And what does package mean?

Sorry, he's just not a very friendly person in general to me before.

the FX8350 shows temperature per core

Package is the temperature of the CPU socket, not the temp of the "whole package", as suggested before. HWMonitor is also known for giving you bad readings on the package temps with AMD CPUs.

Yeah, I only said (intel) because his processor didn't seem to have per-core temps. But he has an FX8350 and I don't see per-core temps so perhaps it's a bit messed up. IDK.

Okay, thanks for the info. What is a better monitor to use? HWMonitor was recommended to me by someone on this forum.

i just use AMD overdrive, it also has lots of other functionality in terms of overclocking, torture testing, bench-marking, you-know, the good stuff.

also PCwizard showes individual temps too, but that's old and crashes alot

and there is the BIOS, which should show individual cores, at least the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 does.

under load the temps per core should be identical, if they vary, you may have a problem.

AMD temps are generally off about 9°C
