Worth upgrading from RTX 3080 ti to rx 7900 xtx

xxx68

Hello, do you think it is worth upgrading from RTX 3080 ti to rx 7900 xtx ? Such upgrade after selling rtx 3080ti would cost me 180 - 300 dollars. Because i can get rx 7900 xtx for a nice price. RX 7900 xtx is more powerfull but without DLSS, so i am not sure. I have 4k 144hz monitor. Thank you

it wouldn't be a massive upgrade but it would be one. 'Do I need the extra performance' is the next question you should ask yourself

Also what games do you play and what cpu do you have?

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

You shouldn't have a bottleneck at 4k but are you getting the performance you want in your games? the 7900 xtx would be a decent upgrade of about 40%. If you are gonna get one for only about 300 bucks (after 3080 ti sold) then make sure it fits in your case first. What case do you have?

This

I have recently upgraded from 3080 to 7900xtx, +50% perf which is noticeable

Loss of DLSS don't really bother me, but worse RT perf is more of an issue in games like cyberpunk, where it's not even on par with the 3080 performance...

Also the 7900xtx have good thermals not like the 3080 hotboxes

I'm playing at ultrawide 1440p with a 5900x too, on the verge of CPU bottleneck

Also AIB 7900xtx are huuuuge like 350mm, 3.5 slots, can be an issue

The max length is 369 mm so it should be fine with most 340mil gpus

as @PDifolco said, if you don't care at all about ray tracing or the loss of DLSS or nvidia reflex then I would go for it. The performance uplift should be substantial

Then no the 3080ti is usuallt faster for gpu accelerarion than the 7900. However it depends on the program.

What program do you use?

Spending money is easy enough but dumping a perfectly ok card for a somewhat better card that is heavily dependent upon what you wish to do seems a little wasteful. not 100% sure of time lines but I thought we were about 60-65% of the way thru this release cycle. So you would be upgrading maybe 5 months before the next gen GPUs are released.

your money your choice but personally I see no real benefit.  October this year is a different ball game

AMD drivers for professional stuff might not be good right now. But 7900XTX is defo a good investment as its overbuilt for the times and will get better with time
