How do i braid my cables together?

Synthetic-Pulse

I wanted to know how to braid my cables together so I have a clean look. I circled the braids that I want to do. Does anyone have a guide on this?

Nice pic you have there ;)

It probably won't look as good as Alpenwasser, but the Chicago stitch is extremely easy to do.

You would then do your cross stitch between every wire rather than keeping the black and red together like he did. I don't do the second knot after the starter knot like he did, just adds bulk. I also don't tie the safety knot after the square at the end, a square knot is good enough (left over right, right over left).

Also, @alpenwasser, looks like someone re-up'd your lacing tutorial: ww.youtube.com/watch?v=yPFhJLkkUXA (removed a w so it didn't put the video on this page.)

The braiding in the pic was actually done by me, I double braided it and tweaked it a little differently than alpenwasser but not by much, he helped inspire me a bit. Thank you alpenwasser :) great video.

If you wish, I wouldn't mind walking you through it, or I can try and do a video of how I did it. alpenwasser does a great job though :)

I felt with a double weave, it would hold better and felt it looked a little more appealing to the eye and so was messing around with the thread a bit and started to tweak it here and there finding my own way of braiding. I did the braiding for one of our customers, @Profosist , at their request.

Yeah, that would work too, there are tons of ways to do this. I actually

think I came across this stitch while doing research for mine (not this

tutorial of course, as it wasn't yet uploaded).

Haha, yeah I saw that too. Ah well, I did use a permissive license, and

since I'm not monetizing my channel I suppose I'll just take it as a

compliment. :D

After all, it still has my name on it and the watermark and all that.

Happy to be of service. I've actually seen a few people adapt it

to a double-weave now, very flattering to see people getting so

inspired about this. And really nice job btw. :)

It's not quite what you asked for but this looks almost as good.

Laser cut 1/8in acrylic. I'm also planning to get white, red and black options besides clear.

Yeah, if you don't like the look of lacing or just don't want to

spend the time doing it, cable clips are a pretty good alternative. :)

And clips are easier to install and uninstall, if not broken during the process.

I find the the open combs really don't work that well when trying to bend the cables in tight spot were the combs are.

These combs though

are a good design and make it easier to bend the cables in tight spots. Braiding cables though are easy enough to do and cost a lot less then it would buying cables combs to do it.

That is why we have 4 different sizes for cable clips to make sure they fit most applications. And talking about tight bend, these are quite tight I would say. That was shot one hand holding tripod, one hand on release shutter cable, so the clip is doing all the holding up job.

Open clips are definitely not the best solution, but it can be installed or uninstalled relatively easy if handle with care. Closed clips have to be installed after removing all pins or before installing connectors. Considering how much work that might be, they better to be installed during sleeving process and hoping they won't break after installed connector.

I have not yet tested any of that, so I cannot comment on how firm they hold to wires.

Were the bend starts is were I was saying, , the cable comb in the photo is behind the bend. The round full combs work better if you need a bend that tight, which I ran into while doing my Midas build, the open ones actually did nothing but bunch together when trying to arch the cable out so it could be seen better.

I am afraid I cannot imagine what situation you are running into regardless how much I would like to help.

lD3nwUul.jpg

This is the bending limit of the sleeved wires on the inner side of the bend. With clips or not, this is how much the cable can bend, and I feel our clip is doing the job just fine.

Again, it really all comes down to the dimensions of sleeved wire and the hole in the clip. If fitting loose, the clip cannot hold the wires in position for sure. If opening is too small, even I break 95% of them, and break the rest 5% when removing or repositioning the clip. But when the sizes are right, it fits like a glove.

Post a picture of your cable bending situation or PM me, and I would like to help, and potentially improve our design.

I fixed my problem with my bend lol, I used both, the open and closed combs and the closed ones worked the best. For my situation I needed the comb to be on the bend its self, not in front or behind the bend and the open combs just would not let that bend happen. Either the cables would come out of the comb and or just bunch up and make the bend look very very ugly.

I will difinitely give that a try later. I'm glad things have worked out for you. If there is anything I can help, feel free to contact.

We have gold plated terminals just FYI.

I appreciate the offer, I do though have my own rolls of terminals. But thank you. I have all the supplies I need because of my own sleeving business. ;)

I think the lacing itself looks great not just the straight cables.

Something like this maybe?

T9pzAurl.jpg

Kind of, but make 4 bends so it can go behind the motherboard instead of a grommet cutout  and all 4 combs are in the center of each bend.
