760 SLI VS. 780/880

Go to solution Solved by Guest Kloaked,

Ummmm.. you just contradicted yourself

BETTER performance per watt, and lower wattage is the best performance for your money... since its more performance for cheaper if you count in power.

Not really contradicting himself. He said he wants the best performance for his money, and probably needs it right now rather than waiting until 2015.

Plus like I said in my other post, your power bill does not dramatically change. Penny saved is a penny earned, yes, but it's not that significant to justify waiting if you need more performance right now.

Hey guys!

First of all I would like to let you know that first, english isn't my mother tongue, and second, this is my first post on the LTT forums so be nice ;)

Alright so to get to the point,

I have built my PC in the end of september last year, when the 700 series from Nvidia were still "fresh" and i chose a 760 as my main videocard.

So now that its about half a year later, I've noticed that my card lacks that small extra kick that I was still hoping for after half a year.

I mainly notice these problems in games like Dayz (which is still completely playable at 40-48 fps) but I was actually trying to upgrade quite soon.

Now the question: Would you guys recommend going for 760 in SLI, or go out, sell this card, and buy an 780, or wait for a little while and get a 880.

Speaking of the 800 line of cards, is there going to be a significant reason for me to wait another quarter to get a maxwell based 880?

Alright that was it.

Thanks in advance!

Greets, from Meat

The GTX 880 is supposed to come in at a $500 price point so I would wait for that.

At this time, you're better off buying another 760 and SLI'ing it.

If you want to go through the trouble of selling the 760 then buying a 780, by all means do that if you can. Some games do not like SLI very much, but it's not too bad.

As for your Maxwell question, supposedly they're going to be centered around more performance per watt while maintaining a low power consumption (see the 750 and 750ti). However, we don't know real performance numbers yet and one can only speculate since the 800 series cards were pushed back until 2015. So unless you can wait until then, another 760 is what I would recommend.

880 will be better if you could wait, SLI 770 beats 780, and if you can't wait, spend some more and the King, 780Ti

2015? that's a heck of a long time, and is the preformance increase going to justify the time and money?

Don't forget wattage decrease, you'll save money on your power bill.

Yes and no. Like Shd0w2 said, what we do know is it's going to have a lower power consumption while giving beast performance - however even with Radeon cards (or AMD CPU's for that matter) you power bill does not change dramatically unless you're one of those people who has to watch each and every penny you spend.

In my opinion, it's not worth the wait. If you need more performance now, I'd get another 760 and SLI those badboys.

You know that isn't really a problem, for me atleast, I just want the best preformance for my money, with the cuda support (for video editing and stuff)

Ummmm.. you just contradicted yourself
