EJOE

My buddy and I have bene watching Linus forever. We lived on the East Coast of the US. We are thinking about driving to Vancouver for the event. Would you guys do the same?

I wouldn't drive from the East Coast.

It wouldn't make sense for me to fly over there, rent a car, then drive 2/3 of the way back home.

As to whether you should or not, that's up to you. Does a road trip and more time off sound more fun than flying there and back?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

LTX takes place at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Throw that and your city into Google Maps and see what it says.

1055 Canada Pl, Vancouver, BC V6C 0C3, Canada

I tried Baltimore, MD as an example because it's roughly the middle of the east coast, and it gave me a 44 hour, 2,900 mile one-way trip through Chicago and Minneapolis, then west through the vast nothing of North Dakota and Montana to Seattle, then north to Vancouver from there. That's three days of driving if you both do an 8 hour shift at the wheel, about $350 in gas, plus multiple hotel and meal stops along the way. That's one way, you'll still have to drive back.

Compare that to an 8 hour flight from BWI to YVR.

I'd catch a plane.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

I'm driving there from Indianapolis and picking up a friend in Seattle. I may have another friend joining me, but going either way. In my Tesla 2021 Tesla Model Y long range, it would be the same price as a flight, and I am opting not to fly in order to bring my PC for Whale LAN, but otherwise, a flight makes more sense unless distributing cost across multiple people

I'm driving first to Seattle from Dallas to stay for a few days than heading up for the expo. I got 27 hours for the first trip but with two of us we are driving straight through.

I would just fly. You never know what's going to happen on the roads and maps aren't always up to date with road closures and weather.

"The only thing that matters right now is that you're here, and you're safe."

I will also be driving from Dallas, mainly because I like to drive.

No idea what state you're in but a trip via I-90 is a good way to see some country that you wouldn't see back east.

If driving isnt your thing, and you dont want to fly, there is always Amtrak. Assuming NYC as a starting point, you depart New York Penn Station on Tuesday the 25th at 3:40pm, on the Lake Shore Limited, transfer in chigaco to the Empire Builder, transfer in Seattle to the Cascades, then end up in Vancouver on Friday the 28 at 11pm. Return Trip: Depart on a bus at 11:30 on Monday the 31st, transfer to the Empire builder in Seattle, transfer to the Lake Shore Limited in Chicago, and end back up in NYC at 6:42pm Thursday Aug 3rd departs Total cost for 2 people to is currently 1714 round trip. Expensive? Yes. Experience? Yes.
