Only needs 4, 1 DIMM per channel. @Hunter-Could you post a picture of your RAM to see which slots they're in? They should be in slots 1, 3, 6 and 8. It is recommended to use the same RAM. Same manufacturer, same exact model. It is preferable to buy a kit of four sticks so they will match 100%. Also, before you buy you need to check your MoBo QVL to see the RAM you want listed there. Exact model, I emphasize on that. Otherwise, you might get issues with RAM when turning on XMP.
