I now support Comcast merging with TW

Mooshi

I cave, I give into the Comcast overlords. When the talk of a merger came up, I was very passionate like many other Americans. I would spew things about how anti-consumer it was and being all doom and gloom. But when I was comparing some internet speed over Skype with some friends and even a thread on LTT, it hit me. I'm on the butt-end of this deal. My ISP is Time Warner, the EA of the cable world. From bullshit practices to having terrible prices compared to Comcast, I now made up my mind that I support this merger.

To put things into perspective, the area that offers Comcast is a county away, it's not in Dallas, Texas. We have god awful tier Time Warner. For what I pay for 15mbps, Comcast is offering 50mbps. To get 50mbps with Time Warner..I'll just let these pictures speak for themselves. (Comcast / Time Warner)

"Lowest Prices Online"

The usual argument is to threaten to switch..to what?! There is nothing to switch to when it comes to another cable ISP. The other alternatives are "fast" 4G that I used to have..which is 52usd a month for 6mbps on a clear day and speeds that are actually worst than dial-up on cloudy ones. Verizon doesn't offer FIOS here and ATT flat out sucks.

If this merger means TW will cease to exist, I'm all for it. I can't believe I'm agreeing to a corporate merger, but dammit the numbers speak for themselves.

I'm sure other Time Warner customers on LTT won't miss TW one bit.

Comcast has ridiculous prices. The price that you see if for a year. It is almost guaranteed that after a year, the price will go up and you can't do anything about it because you signed a two-year contract

Without the "limited time offer", the price was 49.99. Promo or no promo, for a 12 month period, Comcast is no where near as bad as Time Warner. It's a shame the local governments here don't care enough to try a local 1gbps fiber network,

Have to be careful though speeds aren't the all telling factor here. Some ISP's are about controlling things for example max bandwidth consumption. I don't trust any provider who has a stake in the TV cable market.

So 50 MPs is fast fibre over at U.S.A? and I thought my 80MPs from sky fibre was not good compared to Virgin fibre but hay it seems over in old blighty our fibre is not to bad it seems.

Exactly. I have been through just about every internet company possible in the US. Comcast,COX, Bright House, Centrylink, Verizon, Time Warner  and of curse your casual bunk little town ISP as well and the one that has not yet screwed me and has good prices is Verizon hands down. Love them and I have had them for almost 3 years now and have had zero issues with my internet those far. :)

I might have just convinced my grandma to switch to the HD preferred plan from Comcast since it will cost $20 less, and she'll have way faster internet. I just have to see how many TV's she can have.

Sony ISP launches world's fastest home Internet, 2Gbps

A Sony-backed ISP in Japan has launched a 2Gbps Internet service, which it said is the world’s fastest for home use.

So-net Entertainment began offering its “Nuro” fiber-based service on Monday to homes, apartments, and small businesses in Tokyo and six surrounding prefectures. Nuro will cost ¥4,980 (US$51) per month on a two-year contract, plus a ¥52,500 installation fee that it is currently offering for free for those that apply online. The upload speed is 1Gbps."

This makes me even more annoyed at America's state when it comes to broadband..freaking 2gbps for 51 dollars a month with 1gbps upload. And this was a year ago.
