Does the b550m aorus elite vrm handle 5800x3d

Does the b550m aorus elite vrm can handle 5800x3d no overclock might undervolt a little bit to make it cooler

Can I ask again it is okay to undervolt the 5800x3d If I can what you recommend best cpu voltage ? for lower temps and clock speed

Undervolting can be better for cpu lifespan but hurts stability if pushing it too far.

Start with a small negative voltage offset like -50mV and stress test for stability and whether or not performance is dropping. I normally use OCCT for stress tests and Cinebench to check performance scores. You can continue to push the undervolt until you're satisfied with the results.

You shouldn't need to undervolt, and it's probably not a very good idea.

The 5800x3d is sort of a special case due to the extra 64 MB of SRAM on top of the core die/dies - some if not all overclocking options will be disabled in BIOS because of it, so undervoltage may also be iffy and the extra ram may be more sensitive to undervoltage than the cores.

As for the motherboard, it's fine, good VRM (not super but good), good heatsink ... it's not gonna get super hot.

Ah, ok. 13th gen Intel looks like a stronger performer at a cheaper price. If you can return the motherboard, might be a consideration.

They both operate within spec. Not sure why you're so worried about heat.

@dizmois right, temps dosen't matter and both can work fine on a ak620. Also the AK620 is one of the biggest air coolers you can get so cant see what you're afraid off. Performance wise, 13600k beats 5800x3d across the board at a lower price but with higher power consumption:

The issue currently is for gaming high end chips are just too fast.  The only way they can even get those numbers is by running at unrealistically low resolutions.  The money these days seems to go into the monitor and the gpu.  Everything else is kind of an afterthought.   Unless your gpu is high end I don’t see anything above a 4500 being terribly useful atm.  Things may change later of course.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The difference in cost between the two would be minuscule. Frankly, if you're worried about $10 or $20 extra a year on power, you probably shouldn't be spending that kind of money on a gaming machine.

How much do you pay for power? You won't be running it full tilt the whole time.

Dizmo is right, but it is using over twice as much on full load. Considering the difference in price though. Don't know what the difference is where you live but here its about 100 usd more expensive than the 13600k

I run the 5800X3D on a (decent quality) B350 board no problem. Interesting thing about the 5800X3D is that it doesn't go above 1.115V if you don't let it boost above 4GHz. It runs quite cool at that voltage, even on air cooling.

If I was to go ryzen right now I’d probably go 5800x.  Only because zen3 has fewer issues than zen2, and the way I figure it it’s going to be ludicrously hard for a game to be written that is not portable to an 8/16.  Doesn’t mean it WILL be ported, I’m just talking about can.  It may not even happen.  If I knew for sure it wasn’t, probably a 5600x or perhaps a 5600g if I only had a lower end video card it could handle over earlier 6/12s mostly only because of compatibility. The 5600 already has more single thread than it needs for gaming.  So it’s more or less “what is the cheapest cpu that won’t get threadlocked and has enough single thread horsepower to be able to comfortably beat a ps5?”. With an eye to what the price/performance is for a given motherboard model. The only other non-negotiable for me is that any ryzen board also has to have some sort of bios loading feature, simply because the bios needs to be updated more often and a bios loading system can save you from a bricked motherboard if the file corrupts or you load the wrong one or something.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Honestly, my 5600X is still pretty decent. It boosts to 4850 on all cores. 5800X3D is not hard to cool, I am using PA120 SE with no problems, runs great actually. Can’t really OC it with my system. 5900X is fast AF too, a bit of a bear if you have it boosting hard, I had mine boosting to 5150.

Power used to be cheap where I am, now it’s not cheap so I too am mindful of consumption. It’s the main reason why I retired my 5900X. It’s just too much. Especially if you have more than one rig running.

A system idling at 250w and loading into the 500w+ range just playing a game is noticeable if you are paying the bills 😁
