I love.podcasts but when are we supposed to listen to them? I like listening while gaming but even that is not quite possible with some games and I think it's.not.possiblr with many things. So when do you recommend listening to podcasts?

During chores and/or 'waiting' times like sitting in transit and other that doesn't require your attention.

I usually just listen to podcasts when I'm driving. It takes me a couple days of commuting to get through an entire WAN Show.

Either you miss the show or the road, there is no multitasking if you 'actually' pay attention.

Yeah what I realized is you miss half of the podcast and you don't even realize it. However I have also observed this with books.

Might depend on what kind of podcasts you're into, and if they need you to be engaged to get the most out of it.

Mine are: Shower, working out, driving, little after work (if released), and a little on weekends after the event (usually MMA).

I might also chip away at one over a few days, since powering through multi-hour podcasts isn't usually ideal for me.

I used to listen while I was working, but I can only do that when I'm doing CAD work and not writing-work-orders-or-emails work. Sometimes still do, but it's hard to find a long enough contiguous time to do so.

Now I listen to them when I go for walks at night (wireless earbuds are the best). I also listen at (at least) 1.5x speed because I have the attention span of a millennial raised on the Internet with undiagnosed ADHD...

,ı listen at min 2x and mostly about 2.5 - 3x. I can probably understand up to 4x. I recommend gradually increasing the playback speed.

I learned from college my limit was about 1.75x before I lose cohesion and it turns into unintelligible syllables (but if it's Steve from GN, I can play at 2x without issue 🤷‍♂️).

No the thing is you have to get used to a speed without trying to increase it I can understand around 3x very easily. I don't think I am special or you are. For me it becomes hard after 3x but I haven't really tried to go so far so that is probably the reason.

Podcasts are very low on the "engaging activity" meter for me, I'd rather spend my time doing just about anything else.

If you really love them, you can always just sit down an listen to them like you would primetime tv

I listen to them while working out, while walking outside, when doing chores...
I tend to avoid them while gaming, unless it's a mindless game like Minecraft.

But that's not "actually" listening. The podcast must always have your full, undivided attention, otherwise you're missing half the show. Apparently.

no thats not the thing. Podcasts are meant for half your attention. But on reality thats not quite correct. So this thread is actually around that. How much attention do podcasts require. And apparently it is more than anticipated.

I play with All The Mods 7 modpack, so most redstone stuff can be done with machinery that I just need to build and power. Easily done. 😅

There isn't a singular answer to that. Everyone will have different reasons and requirements dictating when they'd listen to a podcast.

I often listen to them on my daily commute to work. I drive, and it takes about 35 minutes, so I'll either have music, an Audiobook, or a Podcast playing.

I'll also play them when at home doing chores, or walking outside, or just sitting on the patio outside chilling. Often I'll also put a podcast on when I go to sleep, and just set the timer so that it shuts off when the podcast finishes (otherwise it'll autoplay another podcast episode).

Basically anytime you might listen to music, you could listen to a podcast instead.

In the car, I've tried to listen while working but I find I zone out and concentrate on working 🙄 and can't remember what they were talking about. Although I do that in the car from time to time it's much less, only when someone on the road is being cray cray and I've git go concentrate on them.

I'm never in the shower long enough.

Oh, sometimes when I'm hanging the washing out or when cleaning but I tend to forget to turn the podcasts on until I'm halfway through 🤣

Doing chores like cleaning or dishes mostly for me. The more casual conversation style podcasts help a lot with following along and multitasking.

I have a 1-1.5 hour commute to work and i run an excavator for a living. So most of my day is spent listening to podcasts or audiobooks.

And then there are chores. Which has been fine up until now. But i've plowed through the entire Horus heresy book series (61 books)

And i'm now caught up on every podcast i listen to. Hell if the next book in the Siege of terra book series wasn't out today i'd be bored.
