Best build size to start with

My friend wants to build his computer for the first time and he asked me what is the best build size to start with if it is your first build but you still want to go high-end/ high performance? mini-itx, mATX,or ATX?

All form factors have cases that will accommodate balls out systems.

They're all about the same to build in as well. ATX gives you the most room.

Buy something you would like.

 

If you want a small build ITX. If you want to be able to upgrade, ATX. If you want expansion slots but a smaller build M-ATX.

Depends what parts you have. If you have a good video card, sound card, add on card, and intend on getting a PCI-e SSD when they're released you'll very quickly outgrow an mATX case.

Depends on what he's putting in his build. A list of parts would definitely help.

Depends what parts you have. If you have a good video card, sound card, add on card, and intend on getting a PCI-e SSD when they're released you'll very quickly outgrow an mATX case.

Not everyone blindly follows the audio forum. Some people like sound cards. I do, for the extra jacks it provides that the motherboard does not.

Maybe he's going to have a capture card? Needs another PCI-E card of some sort? We didn't know.

I don't think there is a best. The first proper system I built was a Mini-ITX (my friends system), but I'd messed about in M-ATX systems and my first own system is an ATX. The ATX was definitely the easiest to move around in but hardest to find an area to build in. I need a bigger desk

I was specifically referring to the sound card. Most people don't use pci-e slots for anything but a graphics card.

I would say ATX because there is more space for upgrades, and they usually are more spacey and easier to work in.
