I think GitHub could be really coolio! Thanks!

im also going to look back into gemlogs

https://getpublii.com/ Its free. Put this on github and use cloudflare pages for the rest :O.

This may have been asked before, but I want to ask now, in the current landscape, what would be the best free blogging site? I’m not looking for super recognition, just good image embedding and a mobile option.

i am planning on putting tech reviews mainly and some little life stuff.

is medium even a viable option anymore? Or is blogger usable now? Let me know

A domain name can be as cheap as 1$ (for the first year)  or around $13 a year for a proper .com , .net , whatever ... that's 1$ a month if you buy a proper domain.

A good registrar will give you free DNS so you can update the IP  if/when your ISP changes it and so you can have a small computer at home serving the website, so there's no other costs.  Can be a raspberry pi, it can be an old $10-20 refurbished thing (ex an atom board with processor soldered to it and max 2-4 GB of ram add a small ssd / hard drive and a power supply and you're good to go.

If you don't want the hassle of keeping a machine always on, and updating dns entries, a shared hosting can be as cheap as $10-15 for the first year, 20-30$ afterwards. In addition to that shared hosting also gives you easy "click to install" scripts, so you could easily install wordpress and write your blog within minutes. I like to do that with mediawiki (the wikipedia engine) to write documentation or stuff for a project - just set up a subdomain, install mediawiki and start adding pages.

So if think your blog doesn't deserve 2-3$ a month investment then maybe you should find some other hobby.

AWS Lightsail is a super cheap option for getting a blog going. If you're expecting very little traffic you can host a blog for 3.50 USD a month. It has a ton of pre-configured instances that you can spin up like ghost or WordPress for blogs. You can also spin up bare Linux or windows instances as well. They come with 5 free static IPs as well. You can also get a domain super cheap as well.

I appreciate your post, but I am a high school student and am really just looking for a free solution to dump my reviews. In the next years that sounds great, and I have hosted servers before, but having one that’s public rather than private isn’t something I want to do quite yet.

Real responses only please

I kinda think it is... LTT has a "blog" function...

You could also make a website on github (its free, they pay hosting!) its simple but it also sounds exactly like what you'd want, "blogging" is exactly one of their main purpose goals it would seem.

"Its easy and fun!" (well at least its their motto...)

You could simply create a free blog on https://wordpress.com/create-blog/, no need to host it yourself

They also give you your own domain (name)?

I think the free version gets you a subdomain, but you can bring your own domain name (you're paying for somewhere else)

I basically have it working, but the cloud flare link only works for the homepage, if I disable GitHub pages, all back links and redirects break.

Change the Url in the github section under the server tab. I'm guessing you put the github url instead of your domain name.

Currently away from home so this is all i can do.
