Accidentaly bought MX-blue instead of red, am i screwed?

Origami Cactus
Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

So right now I have a Logitech G810 with Romer G switches, it is okay.

Saw a Logitech ten keyless G Pro for a banging price on amazon and just bought it, and right now reading the invoice it is the one with blue switches.

To add insult to injury, the one with red switches is just gone from amazon, so can't just cancel and reorder the other.

I like that with the Romer-G switches, when you don't press them all the way down, they still register but are silent, read that you can do the same with the reds.

Can I learn to love the MX-Blue, or is it something so polarizing that I should cancel it all together? Is it actually as loud as the memes say? Can I type slowly/not all the way down for a quieter experience?

I only see your reply if you @ me.

You can't get a key to register without it clicking, no.

As to whether you can like/get used to it, can't really say..

Blues aren't nearly the loudest switch. It's quite a meek and docile tone compared to some others.

You can type without bottoming out the switch, so technically yes. If you don't bottom out then you will get just the (rather thin) click from the switch actuating and not the additional thonk from bottoming out.

Those are both really bad switches. Get you a NK65 from Novelkeys or a KBDFans 67Lite and some Tangerine switches from TheKeyCompany

I personally don't like clicky switches.  But at this point you might as well try it out and return if you don't like.  They're not as loud as you think though.  Buckling springs are loud as fuck in comparison.

While I wish that was an option for me, it truly isn't currently. The G pro for 50 bucks is more than enough bang for buck for me, the NK65 is already double the price, not even talking about the keys or the switches.

I want to build my own keyboard in the future, but not atm.

Personally I prefer blue switches as I like the tactile feel of the click. I find that reds tend to be louder than you would expect as you sorta have to bottom out the key if you want to ensure you actually register. Otherwise you end up misstyping alot as you won't register all of your keystrokes. So at the end of the day reds when bottoming out are still fairly loud and blues at least get the tactile feel when you register the key stroke and is generally easier to type with imo unless you are super used to bottoming out the key

Oh if i can also write with the blue without bottoming out, it sounds fine to me, i am fine with a little click, currently typing on a laptop keyboard.

Yeah the click is about 1/3rd of the way and when it clicks it registers, but with the force to get there it'd be kinda hard not to bottom out...

Yeah, but can't really spend more than 50 bucks for a keyboard right now, and the G pro with it's small size and removable cable is really appealing for my vr setup now.

Trying to save up for a 3080/ti/90 in the summer, hoping to get something used for 800

Tbh I find that even when I do bottom out with blue switches it's usually very light compared to red switches. Yeah the momentum sometimes makes me bottom out on blues but it usually is a light bottom out vs reds where I basically have to hard bottom out because the way the switches work and to ensure I don't mistype..

I have a Ducky Shine 2 keyboard that has a mix of 7 Cherry MX switches:

Main Set: MX Red (45cN)
NumPad: MX Blue
Modifiers: MX Black
Arrows: MX Brown
Function: MX White + MX Green + MX Grey

Hella fun keyboard though I'd have preferred Blue or Green (or even Black) as main set because I find Red to be too sensitive for my typing style as I tend to make more mistake/typos than with heavier and/or tactile switches. Since you don't have the option of trading it for another, give the Blues a try, you might just like it.

MX Blues are the best.

I know purists will rage but I lube my MX blues if I want them a little smoother and quieter and prefer them this way. No, it doesn't ruin them. Yes, it does make them smoother and the click more subtle. I used WD-40 for all 3 MX Blue keyboards in my house too lol, sprayed it in, none of that overkill switch disassembly.
