So you link a site with no performance numbers...

The 290 none X is faster than the 770 and costs almost the same here in the UK, i guess you forgot there is a world.

what ? it's like 0.1% Faster ,and there are some other facts ,the sloppy cooler on the 290,the extreme power consumption ,the extreme noise if you want to have a slight 5 C° drop and still it keeps running at 80 C° at idle ,dude considering all of this for only a 2% tops Performance increase in BCS ,and ,the guy who posted this doesn't is not in the UK so still 700$ Vs 390$ for a 1% Improvement ,hh only an idiot wont see this

No, more like you keep hyping your beloved 770, still, quoting power consumption and heat is ignorant and biased, the OP has no qualms with these things.

Secondly R9 290's now have aftermarket solutions from AIB's.

So since you love living in the past, i guess you were this ignorant when Fermi arrived?

I owned 480's before my 290 BTW.

LOL what side of the windmill did you fall off?

Just ignore that guy, he's a certified nVidia headcase. I've had my fill arguing with him....the R9 290 has more VRAM, wider memory bus, and is faster overall....he has a habit of ignoring 3rd party cooled R9 290's and insists on harping about the infamous reference heat issue.

your still bluffing dude ,

-1 if OP is doesn't Know that this kind of facts matter when shopping for a graphics card ,you gonna leave him in at that ,for me no i take thous things in consideration even if he don't qualms with em ,because later on he will find out the hard way when his GPU overheats and die or he aims to lower the temps and he wakes every body by the noise of that thing

-2 say a lightning 290 do have a way better cooler then stock but it's almost 900$ ,a lightning GTX770 again ,performs about as good ,TF4 Cooler and still coasts 1/2

-3 again GTX 770 Is Kepler Not fermi ,but you don't know shit so ...

-480 VS 290 ,doesn't seem the most fair comparison to me

Actually, only the MSI R9 290X Lightning is the only 'Lightning' model available, the R9 290 doesn't come in Lightning flavor, and yes, the MSI R9 290X Lightning weighs in at 700USD. The R9 290 from the various makers is priced at about 400USD (after rebate) for a PowerColor TurboDuo R9 290/HIS R9 290 to PowerColor PCS+ R9 290/Gigabyte WF3 R9 290 at 500USD. The R9 290 outclass the GTX770, in fact, the R9 290 approaches the GTX780 in performance with the R9 290 being generally cheaper than the GTX780.

BTW, thanks for NOT quoting THAT guy, I think you know who I mean, it's much appreciated.

@LawrenceBarnes2013

I don't know if you're doing this for fun or whether you really believe what your posting but you need to stop spreading blatant misinformation. Those of us on this forum can see that you're posting nonsense because we know the subject, but somebody just goggling for video cards may come across this page and be badly misled.

(1) The R9 290 does not run hot. Only the reference cards at launch last year ran hot because of a bad cooler, and that problem was sorted with the partner cards. Nobody buys the reference now except for water cooling.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-r9-280x-vapor-x-oc-and-r9-290-vapor-x-oc-review/27/

(2) The geforce 770 does not compete with the R9 290. There is a big performance gap between the two

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1037

Nvidia's performance equivalent to the R9 290 is the geforce 780. The 770 competes with the 280x

(3)  You don't need to spend $900 to get an R9 290

(4) THere is no such card as lightning R9 290.

You bought the reference version, you should have known what you were getting into?

Besides, you only need a cooler change.

@LawrenceBarnes2013

-1 yes it does and i wouldn't be saying it does if i didn't have one and saw it run hot in front of my eyes

-2 i wasn't saying the 770 competes with the  290 ,it's just that for the OP's 1080P Gaming setup ,a 770 would be enough and fits in his budget well ,and wont exploit the additional performance the 290 offers at 1080p on a non Multi monito setup

-3 yes i mistaked the price its only a 600~700$ for a top of the line Lightning

-4 it's the 290X that i meant for the lightning edition ,but what can i do with AMD's confusing Naming

-5 not every body is qualified to change a Graphics card cooler

thnx for the Lightning correction anyway

-1 yes it does and i wouldn't be saying it does if i didn't have one and saw it run hot in front of my eyes

OP is intelligent enough to not buy the reference cooler. Nobody is recommending that.

-2 i wasn't saying the 770 competes with the 290 ,it's just that for the OP's 1080P Gaming setup ,a 770 would be enough and fits in his budget well ,and wont exploit the additional performance the 290 offers at 1080p on a non Multi monito setup

That's not what you said, you said the difference between a 770 and a 290 is 2% tops

-4 it's the 290X that i meant for the lightning edition ,but what can i do with AMD's confusing Naming

so you've owned these cards but you're still confused about the naming scheme, I rest my case
