I'm happy that they are finally adding tabs to explorer.

I am not happy that they are also introducing even more ads in the OS. I hope you'll be able to disable things like the "suggestion to use Teams when copying a phone number".

 

Even if you can disable it, the list of tweaks I have to do to get rid of all the ads and other nagging things in Windows that only serves to benefit Microsoft, not us users, is already very long and quite frankly shouldn't exist to begin with.

I wouldn't mind the suggested actions provided it's based on our default settings, ie: I don't use Skype or MS Teams but something else for phone and it would suggest calling with that app then I can see it as being okay (or disabling it if we don't want that). Knowing Microsoft though that's not going to be an option most likely

I also ok with the suggestion as it is well done and useful. But off course they should came with option to disable it for user that don't need it.

I would also be okay with suggestions assuming they were useful, but my guess is that we won't be able to choose which program gets suggseted, and let's be real, how many people actually use Skype or Teams to make phone calls from their PC compared to the amount of people who just occasionally copy a phone number?

It feels like the suggestion will not be used 99% of the time, and at that point it is just going to be an annoyance. My guess is that the primary reason for the suggestions being there is to try and get people to use Teams and Skype more, not because it is something that will benefit users.

 

In my eyes, this is another example of Microsoft being hostile towards their users. They no longer design Windows to be useful to people. They design it to try and manipulate people into using things that makes them more money. They have no respect for their users. Windows is designed to trick people these days.

It is a shame they gave up on generic tabs (they had a weird name for it). It was fantastic grouping correlated documents and sites on the same window.

Updated to latest Beta Insider build and now when I adjust the volume I get not popup in the bottom of the screen to show the volume level but if I open up the taskbar volume icon I can see the volume slider moving there without issue.

I am on Dev. I never encountered this issue in any of the builds I got so far.

That's a really nice addition.

Seems like it will be both easy to use and very helpful to people. I wonder what encoder they are using. Would be great if they could use hardware accelerated encoding on machines that support it.

In the latest build of Windows, Twitter user Albacore, discover a feature that Microsoft is working on:

Built-in native RGB controller for accessories.

 

Microsoft aims it to be integarted within WIndows 11 Settings panel under Personalization based on this screenshot shared by Albacore:
 

 

It clearly aims to be customizable based on the following and last screenshot:

 

It uses USB Standard (approved back in 2018 developed by Microsoft) for controlling RGB, meaning that users would no longer need to install (potentially) Razer, Corsair, Logitech, ASUS, etc. apps anymore, unless there are more advanced controls that the RGB software provides or doesn't use standard.

RGB software has been a huge issue in negatively affecting user experience. While I don't expect in the short term that many devices will support it and would be still required to install RGB software. It would open the door and allow consumers to push the company to support this protocol, and now avoid using poorly made software.

 

At the moment, we don't know if any of it actually works, nor did Albacore expose how he enabled it.

Clicking on the Win32 app will open File Explorer to the location of the executable and highlight it.

For UWP app, it will navigate to the application properties under: Installed Apps sub-section.

The latest build of Windows 11 Dev channel, there has been a little unannounced feature:

The ability to remove VB Script support.

VBScript can be removed under Apps > Optional features section. It should be installed by default so far. But based on the description, it looks like it will be axed from new installs. VBScript has been the used for many exploits and can now be removed. This means that IT departments should start reworking their scripts in PowerShell.

While not acknowledge 'Windows 12' or even a next version of Windows, Microsoft has done changes to the Insiders program which suggests that Microsoft is in the path of that direction.

They are now 4 channels, and you can see them already in Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program

(If you don't see the option, restart your system, and they show up)

In a blog post Microsoft shows this diagram:

From my understanding, Canary has a good chance that will experience instability and various issues, as the company work mostly on the stuff on the back, probably many things that targets Windows 12 release (expected to be end of 2024). Dev will focus more on new features inline for the Windows 11 with limited back-end changes as the groundwork is pretty much all done. Probably get security fixes, and bug fixes, but won't have something like... I don't know... just making stuff up... new memory management system, or something. That said, Microsoft does seem to suggest that Canary will get some features before Dev... but we have to see how true that will come to be, as newer system might prevent that. We have seen this with Windows 10 Insider program, where sometimes the Slow ring would get features that the Fast ring only got later. So, we will see... but a possibility to keep in mind.

I wish Microsoft would stop changing the channels every other month, and also stop doing A/B testing inside the channels, and for them to actually follow the channel release cycles instead of sometimes pushing things straight into the beta or preview before even posting them to dev first.

 

It should be such a simple system yet it seems like they are determined to not follow it, and then change it so often.

Does anybody have issues with Windows Security saying Core Isolation page not found or is available? Weird bug I'm seeing on both my main PC and laptop running Windows 11. Telling me I don't have "Standard hardware security not supported" and just noticed the issue with a '!' on security center in my taskbar. Not sure if Insider program has this bug fixed as I have checked in my BIOS on my desktop to make sure everything is working and it is, but the OS is not happy about it...TPM is enabled and secure boot and Security center cannot read the TPM but device manager shows it's working normally. Currently running OS build 22621.1413 but wondered if others have any issues too, hence not opening a new thread yet.
