Which Social Media platforms do you use ? (Google Forms Survey)

Hey guys !

 

We have to do a group project in school and our main head Topic is Globalisation and we choose to do a Survey about Social Media. I created the Survey mostly by myself with my two group mates working on other aspects of the Project, @AluminiumTech helped with bringing my ideas for questions to fruition. The Survey is in German and English again so that as many people as possible can fill it out. The Data will be used in the forms of diagrams and presented in both a Document and a Power Point presentation to my Teacher and the class. You don't have to provide your E-Mail of course. I'd say it takes about 5 Minutes to fill it out but please take your time and read the answers carefully. One thing I'd have liked to see different, is the question about why I don't use social media. Instead of radio buttons, I would have preferred checkboxes. There are many reasons why I don't use them.

On the question whether Social Media is helpful or harmful I actually think both, extremely harmful and extremely helpful. 

I selected helpful because of the way it was initially used, to connect with people. Today it's used for spreading lots and lots of misinformation so it turns more and more harmful. This together with it being incredibly addictive is really bad.

This is a more nuanced reason for why I answered "yes" to this question: "Do you think that social media gives people a platform on which they can express their opinions freely?"

 

Freedom of speech is the freedom to say whatever you want, it is not the freedom from the consequences of what you say. Anyone can post anything on Twitter. If the consequence of that post is that you get criticized or that your post gets removed, that is not the same as never having been able to make the post in the first place. It is merely a consequence of the post. Nobody has freedom from consequences. Furthermore, even if a post is removed there is still a record of it somewhere, so it is never truly gone. That isn't to say that speech is totally free on social media, and that there aren't any reasons to be concerned about the state of freedom of speech on social media. It is certainly a tricky balancing act to get it right, and I do not envy those who have to make the choices about what is or isn't censored etc. I just think that speech on social media is generally more free than it is not free, at least in the US.

 

Edit: I'd also like to add that freedom of speech is not a right for that speech to be amplified. If you speak freely, but nobody hears you, you are still speaking freely. Having the microphone taken away from you is not the same as preventing you from speaking.

The only platforms that appeal to me are Twitter and Reddit,but the appeal is not enough for me to sign up.
