Will the next generation of GPUs drop before prices return to MSRP on current gen cards?

KyberKylo77

I've been trying to get my hands on an RTX card like everyone else but no luck so far. Been in EVGA's queue thing since november and i still havent got my notification yet so im trying to decide if i should just keep using my 1080p display until the next gen comes and then maybe ill be able to camp outside and snag one or something lol. Initially i was gonna upgrade to a 1440p 144hz display along with an RTX card  but i dont think thats happening anytime soon.

A vertically integrated seller like EVGA (who is manufacturer, supplier and seller) would change more in their price, compared to a store reliant on a manufacturer and supplier.

At the same time, I don't foresee a huge change in price. Just because new graphics cards are coming out doesn't mean the older ones will be free to manufacture. They will still take up raw materials and time in the production schedule of a silicon manufacturer (which is definitely at a high demand at the moment).

So it might change a bit still - depending on the MSRP of the new cards - but I don't foresee a huge change. Demand of these 30-series cards might drop, which could have an effect, but that's all just speculation.

the 3070 and 3080 msrps were mistakes from nvidia, and even if we adjust the msrps to 1k 1200 1500 etc we'll not get there til after next gen drops, i wouldn't be surprised if ampere just get moved down the stack since it's samsung and tsmc

I was in the EVGA queue for about as long for basically all their 3090s and later 3080 ti cards.

I ended up getting an EVGA XC3 Ultra 2080 ti on the Newegg shuffle and about 3 months later an MSI gaming X Trio 3080 ti. Both at MSRP.

The only auto notify that got results was from B&H and they sold at MSRP as well. I even bought a 3080 that I forgot about doing an auto notify on.

I am no longer planning to buy cards at launch. I did it for the 900 series, 10 series and 20 series but the 30 series was a little to much.

I also was driven by high frame rates at 1440p and 4k but that has changed with the 30s.

The 2080 tis were overclocked to play games but the 3080 tis don't need to be to get the frames I want.
