Is it worth upgrading to windows 11 now?

Renton577

Is it worth it? I have a laptop that is fully compatible but I'm also wondering about the driver compatibility and current stability, and if there are really any reasons to switch.

I wouldn't worry about for now. I've tried it myself and it's not very stable yet. Also it didn't add any useful features, it's mostly UI.

It’s not ready for prime time. There is no real reason to switch unless your a developer looking to use it as a new dev environment.

If you want an OS that's an even bigger mess than 10, I'd say go for the gusto and do it. Buuuuuuuut I doubt you want that so the answer is a hard no.

Windows 11 is in development. Unless you have a strong backup solution mix with time to reinstall the OS at anytime, the answer is no until it has been officially released.

You would also need a food internet connection and data cap, as each week you'll get a new release.

There is no reason to do that,

Also Windows 11 is in BETA so problems will occur.

I dropped it on my SurfacePro 4 when it was released to the Insider channel.  Had zero issues with anything.  But that's a MS SurfacePro, so yeah, it should work.

Dropped it on my Gaming PC today.  However, I did make a FFU image of the disk.  I also doubled up with a WIM of the Windows partition.  Just because its easy to do.

Ran the update, completed in about 35-40 minutes.  Zero issues.  Everything works.

The Gaming PC runs Plex apps, Steam, VLC, Handbrake. Its in my sig if you want hardware details.

Home PC: Apple M1 Mini, 16gb, 1TB, 10Gig-E.  Adobe CC and Ripping things + Daily stuff.

Gaming PC: Ryzen 7 5800x, 32GB, Nvidia RTX 3080Ti stuffed into a Corsair 380T.

Asgard the FreeNAS Plex Server: AMD EPYC 7443p 24 Core, SuperMicro H12SSL-CT Mobo, 256GB DDR4 3200mhz, Norco 4224 Rack Mount. 100TB+ TrueNAS Core.

Toys:

2017 Focus RS | Frozen White | Daily Driver

1989 Pontiac TransAm | GM Triple White | Heads/Cammed LT1 + T56 swap | Suspension goodies up the wazoo. | HPDE Weekend Warrior toy.

-> Moved to Windows

***

Win11 is still in beta, with no verified release date (I think, the rumored dates were sometime in fall). If you want to run beta as your main thing, that's on you. I wouldn't. Only times when I run anything unfinished is when there's no other choice because of bigger issues.

Also, as the development effort will concentrate on Windows 11 instead of Windows 10 in the coming years, it is very likely that Windows 10 will only be getting crucial security updates, not the stupid feature updates no one was asking for which in addition can also wipe your data or brick your system in other ways. IMO, that alone is a good enough reason not to switch to Windows 11 until Windows 10 is abandoned completely 😀

Actually, the issues is due to security issues being fixed.
