Which black level performs better?crt, plasma or oled

buklu

CRT I think, if top end😄

Edit: Read it like.. Best performance.. Plasma has the best blacks, oled and CRT is last, but could be very great if top end.

The black level doesn't perform, it's just lack of illuminated pixels. It's a stupid question.

OLED is a matrix of organic cells, which produce light when energized. When they're not energized, they're off, no producing light, so you get black or the natural color of the organic film.

Plasma works by heating up gas to produce the color and light. Not very knowledgeable about the technology, but I can only assume the gases will produce some light even when the pixel is supposed to be black.

CRT works by shooting electrons on the glass and heating up phosphorus on the glass to produce light. Color filters are placed in front of those cells to make red, green and blue and therefore a pixel. There's gonna be a delay from the moment the phosphorus cell was lit up until it fully cools down and no longer produces light, so you won't really be able to switch from a color or white to full black the next frame... it's gonna take a few frames to go full black.

So I'd say OLED >  Plasma > CRT   .. crt may be in theory a bit better than plasma but can't beat the other benefits (lighter, flatter, less geometry issues, bigger screen surface etc)

You can't do better black than literally turning the pixels off, so I'd argue OLED has the best blacks.
