Should I get a tab or Chromebook?

My problems with tablet like those are, it's pretty weird to me to have your eyes on the screen while your hand is drawing on completely different place

And possibly high chance of non linear movement between the tablet and the screen by that i mean like 1mm on the tablet vs 1cm on the screen or so do i thought, i mean i know there's a model with a screen built into it but im pretty sure that was out of my budget

But i guess it's worth learning if that's my only option...

You get used to in in a couple days. It's like learning to use a mouse. Feels weird but after a couple days you get the hang of it and a couple weeks later it is like a normal extention of yourself.

As for suggestions.

For wacom ALWAYS go for at least the medium models. I would NOT go older than the intous 3 and avoid the wacom bamboos on the used market. You aren't getting anything new of a decent size in your budget. Older intous pro models medium versions (the 2015 ones) go for around 100$ used.

For huion I can only recommend this

https://store.huion.com/products/inspiroy-rtp-700

The rtm500 is another option but you can easily get to small and hurt your wrist.

If you want this to be portable and not stuck at a desktop you CAN get something like a dell e7440 WITH the full hd screen on ebay for under 200$ or other laptops combined with the tablet. Yes it is not as portable as a tablet or 2 in 1 laptop for sure but it is by far the best experience.

Another nice thing about these non screen tablets is ergonomic. You don't need to sit hunched over a screen so that is good for your back.

In the end 300$ is not much so corners have to be cut somewhere.

As for software I recommend clip studio paint. For something free krita is quite good.

I myself mostly use photoshop since I do a lot of photbashing for my work and other things and just like a one package does all pretty well thing.

So simple put, i really start doing digital art again

And I want to step up from my phone to something bigger and possibly better screen real estate to draw, at first i was going to buy android tab but i remember Chromebook with touchscreen also exist

So im confused rn trying to choose between the two

Btw, I'm pretty flexible with the apps I'm use to draw so i can change my current one to other if needed

And already have pc

What I need is something powerful enough to handle lot and lot's of layer without getting unresponsive and

Having "good" battery life

My budget is around $300-ish

And i have no problems if it was a generation old or something

For 300 ish you get nothing worth your while.

You get a potato chromebook and chrome os is pretty crud to draw on (that and the laptop will be low end garbage quality stuff basically).

As for a tablet 300$ doesn't buy you a ipad with apple pencil support. Android tablets for drawing have basically always kinda sucked and by the time you get to ok ones you are spending as much as a much much much better experience on an ipad.

The best you can do is get a used laptop + a used wacom tablet OR cheap huion. There are 2in1 laptops that support pen pressure and what not but most use windows emr which is just not nice to use for drawing. Yes it works but good luck getting stable lines even with a ruler.

If you got a PC, do neither and get yourself a pen tablet from reliable brands like Wacom or Huion. Im indonesian, so i know for the fact that you can easily find something like Wacom Intuos at sub 100$ price, or even less if you go used on facebook marketplace.

For those who dont? At best you can get a used ipad air if youre ridiculously lucky but imo that aint worthwhile either due to lack of apple pencil. Note series comes to mind at 300$ but you wanna transition from phones so.... no to that either.

As i stated my usual go to at low price is Intuos 4100, but the work surface is like the size of a mice. And for the weird thing, you will be way more used to it when you start using it, and in professional capacity, pen tablets are really your only options as youll need to use professional applications like paint clip to collaborate with each other in the same editable format. As @jaslionstated, itll be like that time you learn how to use a mouse when youre a kid.

Nah, i mean for real, it's still lockdown here (but got better), even if it wasn't i wouldn't waste 30-ish minutes of my break time to set it up and and draw some useless sketch

Anyway, i will try that and thanks@jaslion @SorryClaire for your help!

Appreciate it!

Lets not lie, its still hell and a half. Still stuck here with no hopes of uni restarting in physical form (South Sumatra), but atleast the emergency covid extensions are getting torn down across town. But if i were being honest considering how thin pen tabs nowadays its basically like bringing your mouse in your laptop bag, so even if we gone back to the normalcy and we gotta be on the move once more it still worth while.

I feel you.

I straight up just quit. 1 out of 7 profs still thought a class (that guy was a HERO in my eyes HE EVEN HAD A GOOD FULLY WRITTEN COURSE) but yeah we were set up to fail basically with a teacher ditching us and going to his vacation home in Turkey literally no longer teaching us and then the pre final IOT device project suddenly counting as a pass or fail point and the only 8 segment quad display I got after 4 weeks of waiting was DOA so yeah failed that even tho it all worked :p.

Education is and already has taken a massive hit due to covid sadly.

Back on topic

As for those pen tabs I took my intous pro medium 2015 with me for years together with my laptop. Barely weighed anything and was thinner than my notepad so barely any added bulk. Perfect device for on the go and at home tbh. Also wireless if you wanted it to be.

I beg to differ. Those amd a4 and celeron windows machines with 2-4gb of ram and emmc storage are worse than a chromebook easily. At least a low end chromebook still works and can be used to do minor things. Those windows machines are just not usable.
