Usage of 3D mouse

Before i start with a question this i will give you some reference, i work in a office where we primarily use Inventor and AutoCad for all sorts of need for the plant and we all have a 3D mouse just a basic one like this one.

This has caught my attention and i talked to all of my coworkers about the usage of this mouse, currently i am the ONLY one in the office that use it, finds it useful and that it actually speeds up my 3D work.

If you are working in this 3D environment do you use it or consider it as a hindrance or maybe an expensive paper weight?

I am too stupid to use it lol.

I always love it when people use it because it seems to fluid and intuitive, but for me it's just not 😄

So yeah, I have it on my desk as a paperweight. It's not even plugged in 😄

I would really like to try one once, but haven't been able to justify spending the $ without knowing since I only do CAD as a side activity in the first place...

For it took maybe a week of getting used to it and after that i was hooked.

The one i have i the most basic one, and now i wanna try those with integrated keypads and buttons because i still use a lot of shortcuts, but those cost a fair amount of penny's

I really don't know. Inventor is already very easy to use with regular mouse, and this device looks like an unnecessary complication. But it might be useful in AutoCAD though.

Yes inventor is really easy to use, but keep in mind when working on assembly models that are up to 30m long, rotation of the parts can be a nightmare with just SHIFT and a mouse due to origin point of a large model, this is a lot easier with a 3D mouse.

I really don't see a point to this. But it might be my lack of imagination.

With that said I have not tried it and might like it if I was to use it.

Maybe. Never used Inventor for modelling something bigger than a reduction drive for some machine tool...

Single components or just smaller parts, yea there is no specific need for that. But imagine guard rails for highways that are 30 40 m long and have a 100+ parts each over 4 m?

Well I am working in automotive and my assemblies are just like 1m in size but contain hundreds of parts too with each just a couple centimeters or even millimeters. I really don't think size matters (heh). It's more the scale that matters. If your assembly is 40m but you also have parts of 1cm then you have a lot of zooming to do.

Well those 4m parts are interconnected with nuts bolts and washers 😄
