Ebay. Those things are hard to come by and always priced waaay more than they worth. For example:

eBay is flooded with very cheap brand new PCI nVidia's FX5500.  It's def the cheapest and easiest to access PCI graphics upgrade out there.  There are some better PCI versions but they're rare oddball things and in some case expensive.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/254730752483?hash=item3b4f22d1e3:g:MtUAAOSw0Llfb9JO

There are far newer PCI cards but if this is a retro PC not running a modern OS, this would be a problem.  Meanwhile the FX5500 has Win9X drivers.

If you want AGP though, I have a Radeon 9600 XT AGP I'd sell you for like $25+shipping. 😄

There would be no reason to use pci over the agp slot. The pci slot is significantly slower. But you havent actually listed a budget so recommending a gpu is currently not possible.

Well again you still havent listed a budget so nobody on earth will be able to make any form of gpu recomendations to you. Should you choose to disclose the price you had in mind someone could possibly help you.

AGP is way cooler.

Id go with this!

14-102-287-01.jpeg.jpg.85d8ec83ba05eaa56c0f87204debd58b.jpg

55 $ at newegg…

But dont be ridiculous, agp cards are tons on ebay between 10-30 bucks!

And they'll usually smoke your "nForce" I think! 😅

That's actually what the IGP on that nForce 2 chipset is. 😄

Ah. I misread Google - it said GeForce 4 MX.

I'm very uneducated on the GeForce 4 line - the MX revisions are weird. Radeon's a lot easier to understand - bigger number = better.

In that case, ignore me. I hold no knowledge here.

Don't - it's the same as the iGPU on your motherboard. I misread Google.

Oh you might be right those are similar names and I might be confused... It'd still be a bit of a lateral move within the same family.

But yeah most 'Old midlevel retro GPUs' are not too expensive to get, but the OP doesn't seem to wanna get in on that. Even $50 doesn't seem like a big deal to me to get a classic PC going if you want to use it for fun.

Heck I offered up a Radeon 9600 XT for only 25. 😛

Nope, 8500 is better than 9000 which is better than 9250..... (all the same GPU at different clock and RAM)

Depending what kind of games are the target I'd be looking for something R300 (9600 and up, here bigger is better).
