What network security steps should I take for a Minecraft server?

I am going to be running a public Minecraft server over my own network, and I want to know what, if any, steps I can take to protect my internet security? I am going to be buying a domain and having the DNS point to my IP that my machine will be putting out. I am open to both software and hardware solutions, if needed or possible.

Thank you!

Generally not too much you need to do. Seperate subnet is best if your router supports it(most home ones dont).

Keep everything up to date is the biggest thing you can do.

Do you have a good resource where I can read more on this?

OS, minecraft, router. Basically everything with security updates.

Not really. Probably not needed for a basic minecraft server anyways.

Use cloudflare to start. You'll point cloudflare to your own IP but cloudflare itself will be where the domain is hosted so traffic goes through them so they can't attack you directly.

What is the difference between using cloudflare and just using google domains to host the domain?

Cloudflar would work basically a as a reverse proxy, so all the traffic would go through them. The server for generic apps(aka not websites) isn't free though, and if your paying id just host it from a cloud service.

I already have bought a cheap machine to run it, so maybe when I upgrade then!
