is this bad result to use HDD as portable drive

Guys,

I mainly want to keep small programs which I'd install after Windows installation.

I suppose I don't need some extra fast USB thumb drives so I used typical HDD with external enclosure for HDD tested and got this result.

So judging by the speeds is it bad to use as a portable device for storing and installing small programs from it?

Yes, also because HDDs are delicate and can get damaged from small shocks.

Get a portable SSD or a fast USB drive.

dropped it 3 times inside external enclosure and nothing happened,so please stop!

Last time it fell from 4 feet of the bed.

Umm... dropping mechanical HDDs is bad. You might have gotten lucky so far, but that's a sure way to kill it eventually.

 

If you need it to be portable, then an SSD is going to be far more robust (or a USB flash drive). If it's only going just sit in a desk drawer until you need it then HDD is fine, just don't drop it 🙂 

 

Speed-wise, make sure you're using USB 3.x enclosure and port for best speeds (if not already).

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

Yeah well when it does die, hopefully you don't have any important data on it.

 

Maybe check the SMART data with crystaldiskinfo, I bet you already have a bunch of relocated sectors or other problems due to damage to some parts of the disk.

yes I do,but HDD still works,what can I do about it?

Your hard drive is fine, don't worry about people concern trolling. Portable HDDs have existed for years.

Dropping a hard drive is definitely cause for concern. They're not super durable.

As long as it's working should be okay...reallocated sectors doesn't neccessary mean HDD was dropped.
