How many watts do I need?

FinestRyeBread

Planned on getting a 3090 and a 5900x...seen places where people recommend 850+ and other places I've seen people recommend 750+...I used a calculator and it showed that it'll use an estimate of 650w

its generally recommended to get at least 20-30% more than the minimum requirements. since you are getting very high end parts, I would recommend getting 800+ but because of all the shortages they are either absurdly expensive or out of stock. if possible, wait for things to normalize before buying.

850w QUALITY psu is the lowest you should go. The 3090 spikes all over and really need a good bit of headroom.

That just makes your price/stock level worse. that much power in small factor psu is either rare even normally or very expensive. you will probably end up paying 2x or even 3x the normal price right now for something like that

I don't mind the premium, I just need to know which way I need to go

nvidia's page lists the requirement as 750 but I would go minimum 800-850.

850 seems like a lot until you are using 700 of it. Its nice to have a PSU that isn't maxed out and doesn't break a sweat.. or even get warm. Look at all those people who need to upgrade their PSU because their older card didn't pull that hard. You don't want to be that guy 😄

AMD R7 5800X3D | Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO, 1x T30

Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero | 32GB G.Skill Trident Z @ 3733C14

Zotac 4070 Ti Trinity OC @ 3060/1495 | WD SN850, SN850X, SN770

Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 | Fractal Torrent Compact RGB, Many CFM's

Main issue is still powerspikes 750w is at best ok for a 3090. Any case you wanna go with? From that point we can start making a build

I was actually planning on buying the singularity wraith lol...looks cool; I know I can fit a 170mm psu in there so I might just return this SF750 and buy a bigger psu

Edit: can probs toss my 850w P2 in there if not I can toss this in another build
