Go to solution Solved by Moonzy,

It's a new GPU yes

So basically I was downloading some drivers for a friend for a GTX 1650 and I come across this. GT 1010. Is this a new GPU of some sort? I looked online and it says NVIDIA launched it yesterday? Is this fake news or real? Can someone explain?

No idea, but I doubt it's an exciting GPU anyways, so I hope it's spared from stock and scalping issues

I doubt the DIY market and scalpers would be interested in the GT 1010 because they are not the target market for such a card.

The GT 1010 is most likely going to be picked up by people who just need a display adapter for a basic barebones PC which lacks integrated graphics of any kind.

The Workhorse (AMD-powered custom desktop)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X | GPU: MSI X Trio GeForce RTX 2070S | RAM: XPG Spectrix D60G 32GB DDR4-3200 | Storage: 512GB XPG SX8200P + 2TB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda Compute | OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

The Portable Workstation (Apple MacBook Pro 16" 2021)

SoC: Apple M1 Max (8+2 core CPU w/ 32-core GPU) | RAM: 32GB unified LPDDR5 | Storage: 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD | OS: macOS Monterey

The Communicator (Apple iPhone 13 Pro)

SoC: Apple A15 Bionic | RAM: 6GB LPDDR4X | Storage: 128GB internal w/ NVMe controller | Display: 6.1" 2532x1170 "Super Retina XDR" OLED with VRR at up to 120Hz | OS: iOS 15.1

Hmm, what are you using it for though? It's not great for anything much other than display adapter

Well, it wont be for me. Actually, it will go to my work and probably drive the 1080P TV we have in the lounge which is connected to a PC with an i5-6500 and integrated graphics. It just plays youtube, netflix and sometimes we use it for server management

In that case, you could just use your on-board graphics no?

Well yes. And that is what we used for many years. However, I thought that maybe I would install a GPU just a little bit more powerful than the iGPU. It might seem like a waste of money, but I just said yolo it and will purchase one. Also, you don't know by any chance what architecture it will be based on?

It's based on the 10 series architecture, which is Pascal, I believe

You'll have to Google to be sure, soz

You are correct and with amazing 256 cuda cores of extreme power

While it seems daft, so long as it has the same "feature set H" video decode block as the other pascal cards it'll be ideal for an HTPC or similar.

I got somewhat frustrated recently looking for a cheap basic GPU for a HTPC type application, as most of the cheap cards are using ancient chipsets which dont support the latest video decode engines. The AMD side especially, which has better Linux support, have not released any low end chips on their newer architectures. Instead just reusing older polaris cores for the low end stuff, which dont have VP9 decode.
