Will EVGA accept my warranty for PSU with roaches in it?

Hi,

 

Unfortunately my PSU has stopped providing enough power to my components and the PC won't boot. I already tested it with another PSU (with less power) and it boots up the PC.

I am assuming EVGA won't accept my warranty because of visible roaches in my PSU but I just want to confirm.

Well yes, they are attracted to heat and my apartment complex has roaches. Need to get that sorted out with the landlord.

My guess is the roaches broke your psu then. I doubt they would replace a power supply broken like this but you can always call to figure out.

I mean... that is likely your problem.

This is why I don't smoke pot while my PC is opened.

 

It's actually quite common.  They make a foam that we can put under the PCB that bugs like to stay away from, but since "death by insect" accounts for < 10% of failures, the cost of adding the foam far out weighs the 99% of PSUs that aren't impacted.

 

I'd contact EVGA... don't mention the bugs.

They're going to see the roaches once they get it and you can't open the PSU to clean it out since that would also void the warranty.

You can't shake out the visible roaches?

 

The way RMA works:  They get the PSU, they test it, they replace it.  They don't open them up to inspect for damage, roaches, etc.  They only make sure it hasn't been opened and whether it's really dead or not.

Yeah that's unfortunate, but definitely the problem. 

 

Try shaking them out and don't bring up the fact when you RMA.
