What GPU would be bottlenecked by my i7-8700?

JohanKjeldahl7

What is the best GPU I could buy without bottlenecking it with my i7-8700 non k?

I hope putting this into the GPU section was right.

But now, fellow gamers, that was it for me. Please keep in mind, that this is just my personal opionion and I am no expert. Your system shall be cooled forever, see you next time.

Not many GPUs would bottleneck. Maybe starting from RTX 3070...

Don't really know how to calculate a GPU bottleneck, by any other method but gut-feeling.

because that's really difficult as it depends on the game too. a game that uses only one or two cores will likely bottleneck the cpu earlier than one that uses proper multi threading.

Maybe you could get an "amateur" level measurement of CPU/GPU bottlenecking by running a benchmark that has high CPU and GPU usage? Maybe if the GPU is doing fine, but the CPU starts to throttle or not be able to keep up, you know it's bottlenecking?

I doubt any GPU would be bottlenecked by that in a real-world gaming scenario, unless your game is really CPU-centric Even then, it's not an old chip and I doubt it would bottleneck even a 3090 in most modern games.

Edit: a target resolution would be helpful, because it would certainly bottleneck a 3090 in 1080p. 4k with ray tracing? unlikely.

If you play in 4K, you won't really have bottlenecks, play in 1080p, you certainly will have bottleneck, 1440p a little.

First of all, thank you for answering and for the infos!

Secondly, I would play 1440p and I am looking to upgrade my GTX 1060 6GB in late 2021 and I wanted to know if my i7-8700 would struggle if I upgraded, but since as far as I read all agree on it not bottlenecking except maybe on 1080p with a 3090 or similar, I will probably keep it for a few more years. Especially since I do play in 1440p and I will not go for a flagship GPU, more a mid to low end like the RTX 3060. So - thank you guys!

But now, fellow gamers, that was it for me. Please keep in mind, that this is just my personal opionion and I am no expert. Your system shall be cooled forever, see you next time.

3060 - 3070 level cards should be fine really...

your cpu is similar to mine - there is no bottleneck at all so far... if anything the only bottleneck is the ridiculously low VRAM...

(already maxed it out several times, but that was expected, I already knew 8GB is trash lol)

Playing at 1440p mostly... 4k doesn't seem to be worth the performance impact at all... imo

Oh yes VRAM is a good point. Thats one more reason why I am interested in the RTX 3060 because if I am not mistaken it has 12GB VRAM which doubles my current 6GB. These extra 6GB will come in very handy, if I upgrade. Your 3070 + 3600 combo must run great in 1440p and even 4k right?
