(which is a full length slot running at x4).

Not if the slot above it is populated, and yours is with the wifi card... probably the SSD isn't happy to only get x2. Try removing the wifi card and see if it works?

So I just finished putting together a build yesterday and when getting into the bios, everything looked fine but I couldn't see the M.2 SSD in there. I'm using a PCIe to M.2 conversion board that is listed in the pcpartpicker below.

The bios does show my GPU, RAM, and everything else plugged into the mobo. I'm wondering if the issue might be that the PCIe driver in the bios is out of date as it seems to be from 2016 but I'm not sure how to update this through the bios (or if it's even possible). I have attached some images below along with the full build. TIA for the help!

Is there a bootable file on the SSD? Like a Windows image?

Yes, for testing purposes. I pulled the SSD out of a working windows 10 system. Once I verify that it works, I will be reformatting it and re-installing windows.

I believe so. It's in the bottom slot of the card and actually won't fit in the top (SATA) due to the M-key on the drive.

And in what PCIe slot is it plugged? What SATA drives/other peripherals connected? Did you update the BIOS to latest?

I have my 1070 in the first (closest to CPU) x16 slot, skip the next x1 slot, wifi card in next x1 (shows up in bios image), and then this M.2 adapter card in the final slot (which is a full length slot running at x4).

There are no SATA drives or anything else connected via SATA. I just have those PCIe devices + KB/Mouse + Monitor.

I have not updated the bios yet but looking through the recent releases, I seem to have the second newest one and the notes don't mention anything about NVME drives or PCIe. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z170M-MORTAR.html

I will try updating it now anyways but I don't have much hope for it.

Not if the slot above it is populated, and yours is with the wifi card... probably the SSD isn't happy to only get x2. Try removing the wifi card and see if it works?

This was the problem. Guess I've gotta get something else for wifi/bluetooth :(
