Which MOBO should i buy ---> MSI B550 vs X570

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

Well, out of the b550 boards, the Asus one is the only mATX one, so you lose a couple pci-e slots.  Up to you if it matters.

You do get the best onboard audio on the Asus board, S1200 (realtek alc1200 rebranded).  The Gigabyte has the a classic old (ancient really) ALC887, while the other two have a more recent ALC892 (acceptable).

The Asus board also has 2.5g ethernet while the others plan 1gbps ethernet but again, if you're not gonna use it who cares.

You get 6 sata on MSI boards, 4 on gigabyte and asus

For onboard video, the Gigabyte kinda sucks, as it has a hdmi and dvi out, while the others have hdmi and displayport. dvi sucks cause it limits you to 2560x1600 or something like that, while displayport can do 4k.

Yeah, features wise, the Gigabyte board sucks, should be avoided. Asus has most features but probably also highest price. It's OK design.

MSI boards ... they're basically same pcb, same components. just different paint job .. you can flip a coin, they're both solid boards.

The b550 gaming plus probably has some extra colored leds on pcb.

IF you can stretch your budget, check out MSI B550M Mortar (with or without wifi) :

https://www.pazaruvaj.com/dynni-platki-c3128/msi/mag-b550m-mortar-p568246521/

https://www.pazaruvaj.com/dynni-platki-c3128/msi/mag-b550m-mortar-wifi-p569229597/

Has the better onboard sound ALC1200 and 2.5g ethernet just like the Asus board, but also has usb type c front panel connector and overall it's a solid motherboard.

Compared to the Asus, it has 6 vs 4 sata connectors and better pci-e layout - on the Asus board if you install a standard video card, the second pci-e slot is blocked, unusable ... while the MSI Mortar board has nice spacing between the slots so you could put something in that second pci-e x16 slot.

It also has better placement of sata connectors and right angle usb 3.0, which would work better in lots of cases.

The only x570 i can afford is that one:

And here are couple of B550's that go around the same price as x570 above:

I would appreciate if you help me out pick one. If you have better recommendation or model i've missed feel free to drop it down :)

Could you specify what features you want from a motherboard and perhaps maybe what cpu you intend on getting or have right now?

I plan getting AMD RYZEN 5600x [Zen3]

Im currently with MSI X99 SLI PLUS, so i expect nothing special i guess...just to be reliable in the long run and maybe to be able to handle some slight overclocking aswell.

Unless you need multiple PCIe 4.0 lanes aside from 1x m.2 slot, 1x PCIe 16x slot, and CPU chipset, get a B550.

The low end MSI X570 motherboards are pretty terrible for the price. Of their more affordable models, the only one that's good is the tomahawk (which is actually pretty fantastic)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Believe it or not the X570 MSI is by far the worst of all those boards in terms of VRM performance.

If you are not planning to OC any of those B550 boards are good, if you plan to potentially OC maybe get a 5800x/5900x one day, get the MSI or Gigabyte B550 options you listed.

Has the better onboard sound ALC1200 and 2.5g ethernet just like the Asus board, but also has usb type c front panel connector and overall it's a solid motherboard.

Compared to the Asus, it has 6 vs 4 sata connectors and better pci-e layout - on the Asus board if you install a standard video card, the second pci-e slot is blocked, unusable ... while the MSI Mortar board has nice spacing between the slots so you could put something in that second pci-e x16 slot.

It also has better placement of sata connectors and right angle usb 3.0, which would work better in lots of cases.
