At what temperatures should my CPU and GPU be when no programms/games are going?

JohanKjeldahl7

At what temperatures should my CPU and GPU be when no programms/games are going considering an ambiant temperature of 23°C (73.4°F)?

My GPU is a GTX 1060 6GB with the normal air cooler and my CPU is an Intel i7-8700 (non k) with the intel stock cooler.

But now, fellow gamers, that was it for me. Please keep in mind, that this is just my personal opionion and I am no expert. Your system shall be cooled forever, see you next time.

Do you mean Idle temps? 30-40 is pretty good for idle, 50 is acceptable.

So with my 48°C I am in range. Thank you very much!

OP: Idle temperatures are mean nothing, does nothing, affect nothing. As long as your under load temperatures are below 100c and your CPU isnt throttling you are fine.

ambient meens room temp

Op with the 8700, the intel cooler isnt quite enough. Id guess idles of low-mid 70s. for gpu it depends on which 1060

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I do not know which 1060 exactly since it is a pre built, but I never had any thermal throttling when it comes to either CPU or GPU so I think I am still fine. Although you are defenetly correct with the intel stock cooler not being the best option for the i7-8700.

Yes but if my CPU would be at 75°C (which it isn't of course) at idle it would be not enough cooling I guess.

It says "We could not find your GPU in our database, which may not yet display rare or unreleased devices.". I have tried searching it up multiple times in the past but since it was a pre built it is probably harder to find. Here are the screenshots:

Many of current GPUs have 0rpm mode by default. Meaning that fan doesn't spin until card gets to 60C. Aka when you run something more demanding than 1080p or even 4k video.

On CPU side idle means nothing, as said. Its pretty much just telling if your cooler is working. CPU isn't ever truly idle when you have booted to OS. There are too many background processes for that. But on water cooling you would see some 5-10C over the room temp, on air cooling bit more. Ofc depending on your fan/pump settings too.
