The AF in the name is a positive thing.

The Ryzen 1600 first came out using Zen technology and it had a model number with "AE" in it.

The 2nd generation of Ryzen used Zen+ technology, which was faster. The 1600AF is basically a Ryzen 2600, as it is a Zen+ based CPU, not just Zen [1].

Awkward Flatulence

In all seriousness, it's part of the product's box numbering. The AF models are newer and based on the 12nm process instead of the 14nm one, hence the 1600AF is very similar to a 2600 in performance, and also hence the high demand for it.

Its basically just a revision number for the SKU code. The original 1600 was AE. It means it is essentially a slightly lower clocked 2600

It means instead of being GEN1, its made with a better process node, and is akin to a Ryzen 2600 as opposed to a Ryzen 1600. If i remember right its only 100Mhz shy of a Real R2600

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
