Search almost always takes me to Infinite Cloudfare Captcha

Nayr438

Browser, version and OS:

Firefox Developer 84.0b8 (64-bit) Arch Linux

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

Searching Forums

What happened?

Infinite Cloudfare Captcha Check

What did you expect to happen?

Search results to appear.

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable:

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Any other relevant details:

It doesn't happen every time, but I would say 75% of the time I end up being redirected to CloudFare's Captcha check. If you complete the captcha, it asks you to resubmit the page and brings you back to Cloudfare Captcha.

I have disabled all extensions and I am not behind any kind of Virtual Network or Proxy.

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?

Can confirm captcha occurs even tho I just did it 2 minutes ago, seems like to prevent ddos attacks by spam searching and loading the servers

But solving it would allow me to access the search results, on mobile android and windows pc on chrome

Try opening it in a new tab, or clear cookies and cache

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Are you using any plugins that block cookies/tracking?

I am not currently using any.

I'd like to add however that I do occasionally get a Captcha check when just browsing the forum, however they are fairly infrequent and doing the captcha brings me back to the forum. That's fine and works as it should. It's just the search function that brings me to a endless loop.

It doesn't make a difference and occurs across fresh Installs. I have also gone through a OS reinstall recently, which would have put it in a clean state, with it occurring before and after.

I get it every now and then, usually when the forum overloads, but a quik check without any captcha lets me through

Just to make sure, only with your desktop/home connection. Or do you get it with mobile connection two (different host/IP).

I don't usually browse the forums let alone search from my mobile device. Mobile Data on ATT is so slow its ridiculous.

However for testing sake.

Searching from my phone displayed a captcha, then returned to the forum.

Connecting to my phone hotspot from my Desktop, brought me back to a endless loop.

Since this doesn't happen every time on Desktop, just most of the time, I would need to further test this with random searches over time on mobile.

I logged this from when the Infinite Captcha happens. The Forbidden request seems pretty suspicious.

Mortis will be able to check things further. The reason why I asked was if your IP would have been somehow differently flagged by CF. It has happened before, IP being previously used for DDoS and then legimate member having troubles because of it.

I can also confirm this. Chrome 87.0.4280.88 on Arch Linux.

I have a dynamic IP that refreshes daily. Using with or without adblock doesn't change anything. As mentioned, this only happens when trying to use the search function.

Most of the time solving both checks allows me to go through, but one time it kept trying over and over until I refreshed the page.

The CAPTCHA is part of our attempt to keep the rest of the site up, so it is not something that we intend to turn off at the moment. I don't know why it requires two solves, but it should work once you have solved it twice.
