When turning on my PC, it turns off then back on. Why??

Zagzo

So recently I've been having a problem with my PC. Every time I turn it on it will turn off and then turn back on. Then it puts me in the error screen and tells me to go into bios, when I exist bios it boots into windows and works without a problem. I really confused about what the problem could be. Its just annoying that it takes a lot longer now to boot.

PC Specs:
CPU: I7 8700K
COOLER: NZXT KRAKEN SOMEHTING
GPU: ASUS GTX 1080
MOBO: ASUS STRIX Z370-E
RAM: 16GB
STORAGE: 250GB SSD, 2 TB HDD
PSU:  Corsair CS750M 750W 80+ Gold

The problem started after I didn't use it for a week and a half cause I got a MacBook which was more comfortable to use for school. But there were times where I didn't use it for 3 weeks cause I was on holiday and it was fine.

I was recommended to clear CMOS and I did that and I still get this problem

Here is a video of the PC booting and the error message I get.

Note: some asus motherboards double boot. (I'm not sure what the problem is but that might help)

Try changing your CMOS battery.

Also it mentions raid or optane, are you using either of those?

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

It could be your PSU, unless it’s in perfect conditions.

It says "Sata mode selection must be changed to raid mode in order to avoid unknown issues"

I could be wrong, but the reason I think it reboots and goes to BIOS each time is because it's not saving your configuration because the CMOS battery is dead. It's a relatively simple check to see if it is the cause, a lot of people have these batteries in other equipment, so you may already have some around the house to borrow to see if it fixes your problem. If not then you can buy a 12 pack from somewhere like ebay/amazon for very little money, for example  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0027XNA6Y/

If it turns out to not be the problem then the batteries will still come in useful at some point possibly. They usually have a shelf life of 10 years before they start failing/draining IIRC. Hell if I thought it'd get to you quickly enough I'd send you one of mine to check. But it's gonna be much quicker from Amazon/ebay and around £4 for 12 batteries, you can get smaller quantities but some sellers want almost that much for just one or 2 batteries, so that's why I buy in bulk as above.

Anyway, hope you find a fix for your problem.

It’s best to first read the error code. But if the error code shows nothing, it’s likely the PSU. For a PSU, go for something 80+

@paddy-stone I bought the batteries. They will come in 4-7 days. If thats not the problem is it possible its the PSU?

It's possible, but so could many other things. IMO it's not likely, but other factors come into it when talking PSUs, I would first check a different outlet, different surge protector etc rather than buying a new PSU. Also for example if the outlet/SP is not giving you clean enough power this problem could show up I think. Getting a UPS would negate that problem somewhat I believe. But I am not an expert when it comes to PSUs etc, just have some general knowledge in that area from previous builds and troubleshooting. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can comment on whether it'd be likely for the PSU to cause this problem.

Sometimes it can be difficult to troubleshoot a system as there are sooo many things that could be the cause. Especially when we don't have physical access to it.
