YouTube Embeds are not working with Address bar URLs

Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

This is because edge tries to be smart when you copy the URL from the address bar and formats it nicely. The forum thinks that you just pasted some existing rich text (because that's exactly what you've done), and doesn't try to replace it with embeds. Off the top of my head, I don't think the paste handler and the embed handler are coupled in a way that would allow this to work more nicely unfortunately.

Browser, version and OS: Microsoft Edge Version 87.0.664.41 (Official build) (64-bit) / Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.630

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

Copy YouTube URL from address bar and paste on topic or reply.

What happened?

YouTube URLs copied from the address bar (for instance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QmiNC9d788) are not automatically embedding. It'll simply display as this:

Formula 1 Theme - YouTube

What did you expect to happen?

When I paste the URL from the address bar it should embed as such. However, now I have to click "Share" on YouTube and paste this link for it to embed (https://youtu.be/_QmiNC9d788)

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable:

Happens on all discussion threads.

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Shown above.

Any other relevant details:

Not sure when this started happening. But I recall before the update links would embed automatically even if I copy the URL from the address bar. It seems to be automatically creating a hyperlink rather then embedding the video now:

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?

N/A

It doesn't work in edge, i think it's a javascript issue not cloudflare.

He didn't say that specifically. Just said it happens in Edge. Never said he tested it in other browsers, that's why I threw those up there - just as a friendly test.

I don't use any other browsers 👀. Don't even have any installed just in case hahahaa. Possibly the only member here who exclusively uses Edge.

Well okay.

It's an isolated problem, i can replicate the same problem with my edge. Not with firefox / chrome.

I think the javascript for the embed is not compatible, or there's a restriction on the edge part.

Solution, use chrome/ ff or wait for a fix from the Invision forum developer.

There is a work around, you just have to manually get the share link instead of just copying and pasting from the address bar. Let's see if Mortis knows if they're aware of such an issue.

Oh interesting, I didn't know Edge did that. After doing some digging in the settings I did notice there was a setting where Edge as you've said, tries to be smart with copying and pasting URLs.

It seems that changing that setting back to "Plain text" resolves the issue. Thank you!

Looking at the code (rather than from memory) it seems that this should actually be possible, so I've passed it on to IPS.
