I need a new phone, help me choose!

Hello all,

My LG V40 Thinq is on its last leg, mostly because it was dropped (not by me!) and the screen glass is chipping off even more now, so the screen is sure to be unusable soon. Given that I am still in university, I would very much like to avoid getting a new phone and I really do not mind a refurb or used unit. I am certainly an android guy, however, an iPhone is not 100% out of the question. I was initially considering futureproofing for 5G, but I feel like it's still too early to even consider getting a device that even used is $400 USD or more. The LG V50 or V60 Thinq have been in considerations, mostly the V50, because they hover around that price in the used market. My other thought was getting another V40 for about $200 USD, wait for 5G to be at full force and then get something better that will assumedly be in that $400 USD range. Curious to see what the community thinks and if you have and recommendations, please share!

Thanks!

I broke my phone a little bit ago, and I ended up buying a Google Pixel 4a, since it is only $350, and its a good option, I really like it. It doesn't have 5G though, without paying an additional $150.

Check out the Motorola and Samsung A Series phones.  Motorola makes decent phones for pretty good prices and the Samsung A series phones are like the younger cousins of the S Series. And like @NobodyOfNote said, the Google Pixel line is pretty impressive and they are priced pretty well.

So what is your hard budget? You threw out $400 but didn't specifically say how much you were looking to spend.

Buy poco x3 nfc, best bang for the buck phone in 2020(my opinion), yes the miui is miui but I got use to it pretty fast(OK I came from EMUI, but had android one phone before that), it has some querks, but every skin on top of Android has them and phone is quite cheap, got my 6/128 (don't even need 128 model, because it has support for micros SD cards) model for 220 euros. Screen is good, cameras ok for the price(suffers in low light), battery life is excellent in 120hz mode lasts me 2 off work days, and works days whit a lot of maps, calls get around 7+ screen on time at mid brightness and at the end of the day(10pm) still have around 25-30% battery left , stereo speakers are nice, finger print is meh(cuz I'm used to it at the back not side, it works fine but it's a meh for me, cuz position), build is nice, fast charging very useful, and extras like ip raring( 53 I think) and 3.5mm jack, ir blaster makes a good deal phone, the included case in the box is also a pretty good, it's not that thin crapy silicon case.

I would recommend checking it out :)

You didn't really say what your budget was. You threw out numbers, but nothing specific, and that doesn't really help us ;)

If you're looking at the $200 price range, your options are really limited, even used.

You can get the Motorola Edge right now for $400, or they also have the One Zoom on sale for $249.

If he's in the US you can't really use Poco phones. They lack the proper band support.
