Looking for recommendations for 1440P 144Hz monitors!

SHiFT

Hey all,

I am going to ugprade to a system capable of it, so I will be getting a new monitor.

I currently have a 1080p 23 / 24 inch monitor. I was going to go to 27 - 1440P 144Hz.

I am undecided if it's AMD or Nvidia, depending on stock really. So I'd like a monitor that can do both or recommendations for each.

I live in the UK so would like UK based outlets or Amazon as link. My budget is say.. 300-400 pounds or so?

Please help a monitor noob out :)

I'm streaming every day, many AAA games, to entertain people and to get a hang of games that others are unable to play or want to see before they buy.

Was going to recommend the AOC CQ32G1WG4 I have... but that may be too big for what you had planned.

G-Sync units usually offer support for both AMD & nVidia cards, but to what level of precision I cannot say, from personal experience.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Even though TN panels are older tech I'd still recommend them for the price. This one looks like a good deal.

It is for gaming 99% of the time - that is my need.

Well, how big is too big? I'd say 27" is already quite large for a monitor to sit in front of.

For that price, I would recommend these two.

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/pixio/px7-prime

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b

Pixio fits in your budget while you might be able to find the LG on some other shop within your budget.

What about the likes of Gigabyte or ASUS and so on, the gaming monitors etc? They are around this price or so.

e.g TUF ones such as - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-tuf-gaming-vg27wq-27-2560x1440-va-165hz-1ms-freesync-hdr400-curved-widescreen-led-backlit-gami-mo-0ar-as.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiA7qP9BRCLARIsABDaZzhQGx_ld21NoUNVFTPDWOdO2S-LIL4bGhxK2BL6QB-HVzHxGJQKUeoaAlYHEALw_wcB

As explained in the sticky:

You honestly should only buy monitors that have been reviewed. There are links to the good review sites in the sticky, so you can see if any of those monitors have been reviewed.

But for example that Asus panel you linked is VA, so it will have ghosting in dark scenes. There are no good reviews of the monitor so I cannot say how bad the ghosting will be.

Right now the https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-27-gaming-monitor-s2721dgf/apd/210-axeh/monitors-monitor-accessories#techspecs_section is way over budget. But for the longest time it was around 399 so I would keep an eye on it.

Edit: It was reviewed by hardware unboxed who said it was one of the best monitors and after that the price rocket to $570.

Well - I see many different opinions for panels. Out of all, VA, IPS or TN - is IPS the best for gaming?

Most people do prefer IPS and I would call them all-around the best.

TN's do have better response times and even the 240/280hz panels are pretty cheap.

VA has the best contrast and usually good black uniformity. VA panels just suffer from the slow response times on dark scenes, meaning they will ghost.

IPS are getting really fast and they usually have good color accuracy, their problems are low contrast ratio and poor black uniformity.

So basically, there is no one panel to solve all your problems?

What would be the most.. common panel for gamers? I'm not playing CSGO on 2 billion FPS. I will be playing all sorts of games across a range to be honest.

Is that really true? It rocketed after that review? Do you have sources?

I would advise getting the dell S2721dgf, can be had for £330ish.

There is usually codes floating about for discounts on dells website, student discount code, work places that use dell sometimes have a discount scheme.

£389 seems to be normal.orice just now, but oos.

It's on Curry's for that price.

Why is everyone so obsessed with this monitor? What about ASUS / Gigabyte's own IPS ones at this same price and refresh rate?

Going from experience a panel with something like this will have hardcore ghosting under certain circumstances, avoid.

I would say why is everyone obsessed with ASUS? From my experience as a computer engineer their stuff dies just as much as anything. There is no real advantage with brands. Tech inside counts. Don't like IPS for monitors because their overall brightness changes so regularly.

From what I gathered, IPS seems to be the more expensive / better option overall?

Also - according to this post - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/1440p-144hz - the best monitor is the ASUS TUF VG27AQ?

When I got the dell, I think the Asus tuf would of been the bigger price of £480, which was £150 more than the dell.

It looks like there isn't much in it according to rtings, and since I have had it, hardware unboxed have also done a review and put it as their top 1440p monitor.

I'll keep an eye on it. It's sub £400 - which I guess is not bad if it's all the bells and whistles people seem to claim it.

Is the IPS panel the best out of all the others? Hence they are the more expensive ones?

I noticed everyone said VA / TV a while ago as IPS had low refresh rate 2-3 years ago, but now it seems like it's not the case.

There is no objective "best". Just buy an IPS.

I see. What other alternatives are there along with the DELL one mentioned above? And why recommend IPS over VA?

I'm not recommending an IPS. If you understood me you would see I recommended a TN at the start. You're looking for something that doesn't exist. IPS is closest for you.
