i7 2600 in 2020 ??

Skrapy

hello everyone , i live in a country where is everything double the price and im like 15 years old , i have a i5 2400K (not overclocking it) with a gtx 1650 and 8gb of ram and i notice alot of bottlenecking / frame drops since i play alot of cpu instensive games, im looking to upgrade to a i7 2600 or a i7 3770 since it seems the best choice for me since i dont have to upgrade mobo , ram or anything , im looking to also get an rtx 2060 or maybe a gtx 1660 , will it bottleneck ?? will it die anytime soon since second gen to 3rd are kinda old ?

Yes it will bottleneck.
CPUs typically don't die unless they're abused, far more likely the mobo fails, so unless your cpu upgrade comes real cheap it's probably not the best investment plan.

Unless you can get the CPU for very cheap I wouldn't bother with it. The i7-2600 is a great chip (I have one in my workshop rig, see my signature for the build details) and it still holds up very well, but if the tasks you're doing are very CPU intensive then you'll want to look into a platform upgrade. If you do upgrade to a 2600 you don't really have to worry about it dying. CPUs don't usually die.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

I'd say skip the 2600 still. You don't have a lot of upgrade options for that platform, and it's a good idea to be on something newer anyways.

would you skip if you were 15 without a job and a ryzen 5 3100 on it self costs 220$* when i can get an i7 2600 or a 3770 for 90$ that i got in my birthday for just 10 or 20 fps difference over the ryzen ?

In that case the older chips make more sense. I wasn't aware of your budget restrictions.

Its still not a huge upgrade though, id probably wait for a bigger jump if you can. Im still running a 2600k, and its pretty limiting in games

what motherboard do you currently have?

you might be able to get a cheap xeon for an even better price than an i7

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The problem here is there is not going to be a crazy performance spike with the i7s on the same chipset so this is going to be a temporary solution that will likely not do much. You could look into sourcing a zeon E3-1220 (or E31230/1260/1270) from ebay or similar sites or just see if any local businesses like data centers or offices might have a decommissioned one floating around and than slap a nice overclock on it. you can often find these zeons for 20-30$ and they tend to overclock well with a traditional tower heat sink as their original clock speeds are very conservative to accommodate limited air flow and heat sink size in rack mount servers. Also why have you not overclocked your current cpu (if your mobo can overclock)? If you are scared of damaging the CPU or motherboard please don't be as I have never bricked or heard of anyone I know bricking or damaging hardware by overclocking.

If you can squeeze a 3770 or a K that would be a decent upgrade if you cant switch platforms. I still use a 3770K and for what I need it to do it rips. Its not @ stock clocks though.

My kids play this thing more than I do these days. But I have BeamNG, Doom, FC5, RE2, Hello Neighbor, and Roblox installed :D

Plays just fine at higher settings, no low or medium. I have things locked to 60 so its all butter. My 980 in my sig says stock, but its running at 1417MHz instead of the 1293 that its supposed to be at.. when I do overclock it I run it at 1500/2000.
