Wanna know why community posts and stories doesn't show up on the Fold? It doesn't have anything to do with Samsung. 

It's because the YouTube app detects the fold and other large screen phones as tablets, which cause them to be put into YouTube's "tablet mode". 

Tablet mode does not have stories because Google think it is a phone oriented feature. If you got the tablet mode in youtube, you don't have stories. Since YouTube think a device as big as the fold is a tablet, it gets put into the tablet category. 

There is nothing Samsung can do to fix this. 

If you got an android tablet, even a stock android one, you will not be able to access stories on the YouTube app. 

 

However, if you open YouTube with the fold folded, using only the outside screen, then stories should work because the screen size is one Google considers "a phone".

This would explain instagram as well, which just plain doesn't have a tablet mode.

This explains why I was wondering wtf Linus was on about with YouTube Stories and Community posts, I've never seen them before because I only ever use PCs and Tablets to watch YouTube. My Samsung S9's screen is too small to watch anything on.

While it's understandable and justifiable as an individual decision, it's unfortunate if the software compatibility problems with folding phones are driving people to give up on folding phones. It's effectively rewarding app vendors for their decision not to bother supporting them. And it's especially troubling in the case of Google, which has active reasons to want to sandbag its support for phones in an Android form factor it isn't yet selling itself, from a vendor it isn't too friendly with. I'll tell you want, if a Google foldable turns up in the first quarter of 2021 as rumoured then I'll bet you that Google will have changed its mind about whether the market category is worth the software effort.
