Best PSU For My New Build?

NekoTeagan

Hey everyone!

I'm planning on upgrading my computer with all the new next gen hardware (new Rzn 5000 series, Nvidia 3000 series/new Radeon cards). I know these all are going to consume MUCH more power than my current rig, which I'm using a 650w PSU for. So I'm debating between two different PSUs, either the Corsair RM850x White or the RM1000X. Will I need the full 1000 watts? Or will 850 be sufficient? If I do need the 1000w, where's the best place to get custom cables? (I wanted white ones to fit the color scheme of the rest of my build).

Here are the other components:

Case: Corsair iCUE 220T

MOBO: ASUS Prime X570-Pro

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Z Series Z63

SSD: x2 SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS (Might be changning)

CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X

GPU: RTX 3080 / Radeon RX 6900 XT

4x (Maybe 6x) RGB Fans

2x RGB Light Strips

CORSAIR Commander PRO

HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB

I think that's it, let me know what you all think!

what 650w psu do you currently have? if it's good quality, it should handle those cards

Not if he gets a 3090 or 3080... If you watched linuses video on the new 3090 it had power spikes that would probs overtake a 650w psu (Im not an expert tho so if I'm wrong sry about that)

should be fine with a 3070 or a rx6800, but not with a 3080/90 or rx6800xt/6900xt

Yeah I'm planning on one of the two better GPUs

here is the thing. Linus also sorta missrepresents the issue. yeah the GPUs have horrible transient spikes due to how Nvidia decided to boost the cards, but there are non-transient sensetive PSUs you can use in the 550w-650w wattage region.

not the greatest unit. it will likely run the GPUs tho i do encourage getting a higher quality unit.

this PSU is still a very nice deal.

id also consider changing the cooling solution and the storage Solution, neither are good value.
