Reporting your own posts

Why is it that I can report my own posts? In my opinion this should be removed.

It's often used to request that a post be moved or deleted, which is a legitimate use case that we want to support.

There's never too many report buttons. Still missing the one to report profiles.

This has been discussed multiple times, you can use search to find those threads. In short, allowing members to delete their own posts could, and possibly would, lead to excessive trolling. Also the delete might be used to remove threads where answers/replies weren't satisfactory. While moderation can see edit history and removed posts, catching members without reports is pretty hard task. Like there was 35 posts/status updates made in past 5 minutes.

 

We do allow removal on request, but really only would like to do it for valid reasons (self-solving, posting errors, post contains something not wanted to stay up, data/account removal requests).
